Dr. Jo Carr is writing a letter of recommendation for Andres Eguiguren's application for a teaching position. She supervised Andres during his MEd TESOL program at QUT, where he achieved consistently high results. Andres demonstrated a strong understanding of language teaching theory and practice. He completed an independent study project and paper on corpus linguistics and world Englishes to a high standard. Dr. Carr believes Andres will be a valued addition to any teaching team due to his commitment, reliability, and ability to communicate effectively and support language learners.

Andres Eguiguren
I am pleased to have the opportunity to speak on behalf of Andres Eguiguren and to support his
application for a teaching position. He has recently completed the MEd TESOL program here at
QUT, and I have worked closely with him during this time.
I have beeni mpressedb y the level of Andres'a cademicw ork. He has achievedc onsistentlyh igh
results across all units, and has been a key contributorto classroom debate. He has a clear
commitment to principled language teaching, and has engaged seriously and intelligently with the
theoretical dimension to his practice. I believe he has an excellent understanding of the linguistic,
cognitive and cultural processesi nvolved in secondl anguagel earning, which complement his
already considerable practical experience of classroom teaching. He has demonstrated good
understanding of the complexity of learner variables and of intercultural teaching contexts; and I
believe he will be much appreciated by the students he works with.
Andresh as shownh imself to be disciplineda nd organisedi n relationt o his own studies,
completing all units very successfully, and also taking on an Independent Study in the area of
corpus linguistics and world Englishes. This involved more in-depth exploration of an issue, and
the production of an extended paper which was of an excellent standard. The paper that he wrote
for me in the unit Language and Culture was of a similarly high standard. He has subsequently
published this paper in the national publication Australian Language Matters. I see Andres as
continuing to develop his academic career over the next few years and can see him eventually
playing a role himself in the area of TESOL teacher education.
I believe Andres will be a valued member of any teaching team. He is committed, reliable and
responsible. He responds intelligently and creatively to challenges, and has demonstrated good
understanding of the complexities of intercultural communication. He has a supportive,
encouraging and calm classroom manner, which will be much appreciated by his students. His
communication skills are excellent; not only in terms of his own ability to communicate
effectively and clearly, but also in terms of being able to listen sensitively and to respond to
student input. I see him to be a very effective 'intercultural teacher', well able to support learners
in the negotiation ofa second language/culture.
I have great pleasure in supporting Andres' application and in recommending him to you.
