2. Does the rainbow exist?
A rainbow isn’t really a “thing” and
it doesn’t exist in a particular “place.” It is
an optical phenomenon that appears
when sunlight and atmospheric conditions
are just right and the viewer’s position is
just right to see it.
3. What Causes a Rainbow?
A rainbow is caused
by sunlight and
atmospheric conditions.
Light enters in a
water droplet and reflects
off the inside of the
droplet.
When light exits the
droplet, it makes a rainbow.
4. What are the colors of a
rainbow?
The pattern of
colours, called a
spectrum, starts with
red on the outside
and changes through
orange, yellow,
green, blue, indigo,
and violet on the
inside.
5. Why is a rainbow a bow or
arc?
A full rainbow is actually a complete
circle, but from the ground we see only
part of it. From an airplane, in the right
conditions, one can see an entire circular
rainbow.
6. What are the different types of
rainbows?
1. A single rainbow
2. Double rainbows
3. A twinned rainbow
8. 6. A red rainbow 7. An upside-down
rainbow
Rainbows come in many types, and not all need
'rain.' Each one is unique and spectacular in
its own way, offering the fascinating
ways in which light interacts with everything
around us.
