Andreas carried out a research project for a MSc in Infection Biology (Virology) at our
laboratory between May 2015 and August 2015. His project was to study the neutralising
antibody response to Morbilliviruses. During this time he gained experience in a broad range
of molecular and tissue culture techniques. These included maintaining established cell
lines, DNA transfections, preparation of pseudotype virus and neutralisation assays using
canine and human sera. In addition he successfully mutated and cloned the haemagglutinin
gene of Canine Distemper Virus and gained skills in primer and cloning design, DNA
extractions and restriction enzyme digests.
Andreas was also able to demonstrate a good aseptic technique also virus handling and
disposal skills.
Andreas is enthusiastic and hardworking and was able to develop the project using his own
ideas. He understands new concepts and techniques easily.
Andreas contributed confidently at group meetings and integrated well within our group.
I enjoyed working with Andreas and have no reservations in recommending him for a
Research post or a PhD program.
Please feel free to contact me for any information regarding Andreas’ application.
Yours Sincerely
Nicola Logan
