development and check the quality of your gird

3. Remote Monitoring & Maintenance
We support all our clients to keep their systems healthy and in good conditions in order to get the best out of their investment.
ALL our systems come with a state-of-the-art remote monitoring system; connected to the internet either with Wifi / Ethernet connection, GSM modem or
satellite uplink — allowing us to offer a 24h / 365 days surveillance from our service centre in Maputo.
We also run system up-dates, remote configurations and generator tests from our office in Maputo.

Typical 1P off-grid hybrid configuration
without grid connection including generator
integration; used in situations where no grid
is available or client want to get grid-
independent.
All our DC-coupled systems come with two
AC out connections; one for 1st priority loads
for critical loads and 2nd priority loads to use
any surplus energy to increase system
efficiency.
Typical one phase back-up hybrid

up, in a three phase grid set-up; used in
situations where no reliable grid is present.
ESS (Energy Storage System) is used to
manage all power needs with priority of solar

a) Victron EasySolar
EasySolar solutions combine a MPPT solar charge controller, an inverter/charger and AC distribution in one enclosure.
All our EasySolar solutions are pre-wired and possibly pre-assembled in a system rack; each system is tested and
delivered ready to plug & power.
PowerAssist
Unique PowerAssist technology protects the utility or generator supply from being overloaded by adding extra inverter
power when needed.
Color Control panel inclusive
Two outstanding functions:
- Prioritises battery charging by the MPPT charge controller
- Connects to the internet, enabling remote monitoring (VRM website) and remote control
AC distribution inclusive
The AC distribution consists of a RCD (30 mA / 63 A) and four AC outputs protected by two 10 A and two 16 A circuits
breakers.
A second 16 A output is controlled by the AC input and is programmable - making it also a perfect product for urban
areas with frequent power failures.

b) Battery bank LiFePo4 Freedom Won
Efficient & environmental-friendly: The typical energy efficiency (energy that can be taken out of the battery compared
to energy required to re-charge) for lead acid batteries is ~ 70%. For a LiFePo4 battery it is ~ 92% and can be fully
charged more quickly and using less energy. And the batteries are environmental-friendly due to their non-toxic
composition.
Size & Weight: LiFePo4 batteries save up to 70% in space and weight compared to lead-acid.
Service Life: The expected life in off-grid systems is more than 10 years, and as much as 20 years in grid tied back up
installations with occasional cycling.15 years (5000 cycles) expected life at 70% DoD, 20 years (7000 cycles) at 50% DoD.
Warranty: 10 years or 4000 cycles warranty for average 80% DoD to max. 90% DoD.

c) Solar modules
The solar array consists of Canadian Solar KuMax 365Wp or Canadian Solar HiKu
SUPER HIGH POWER POLY PERC MODULE 415Wp -72 cell poly crystalline modules

including a pre-fabricated wiring set (2x10m).

an AC-coupled inverter architecture from SMA
‣Two core elements in the system are the PV inverters (red) linked to our
solar array and the Sunny Island battery inverter(s) (yellow) in charge of
back-up power to critical loads.
‣Since the system is AC coupled, a decentralised location of the different
components e.g. inverters and battery storage is possible.
‣The system can also run as a hybrid solution including grid-connection
and/or generator integration
‣Battery storage is the most expensive part (ca. 50%)
> we normally design AC-coupled systems with a back-up for critical
consumers only; e.g. fridge, freezers, lights, internet, TV, security, etc.
‣High-consumption appliances such as water pumps and AC’s are 2nd
priority loads and disconnected when there is no grid-power – controlled
with radio-controlled sockets from SMA (retrofit without major work
possible).

‣NO grid-feed-in / reducing PV production to match actual consumption
‣Self-sufficiency quota 50% plus
‣If client can shift power use - from early morning and evening to mid-day, results can be further optimised!
‣Daily PV production reaches around 135kWh with 35.2kWp installed = 3.82kWh/kWp installed
‣Loss of full production potential is around 0.6kWh/kWp installed due to limiting PV production to match load
demand

phase systems
‣We would not recommend an hybrid system implementation without hybrid
controller and/or battery storage

Solar powered centre irrigation system used in southern France:
The system is designed to operate in 24h autonomy in conditions initially set (location, speed, time
of irrigation).
SolarDirectDrive and Irrigation systems
SwissSolar is developing custom-made off-grid solutions for engine
drives, pumping and irrigation in rural areas.
Our Solar Direct Drive (SDD) is passively cooled robust "stand alone"
solutions that provide a rapidly amortising substitute for diesel and
propane gas-powered generators, as they are used in systems for
sprinkling, drip irrigation or pivot drive systems as well as for ventilation,
compressors and also for flour mills and oil pressing.
The Solar Direct Drives are operated from a single PV string and drive
standard 3-phase induction motors with 3x230V (∆) or 3x400V (Y) voltage
up to 5.5kW.
The direct advantages of our drives compared to other manufacturers
are:
‣ The devices are designed without storage/batterie usage, to provide
energy with the first and last ray of sunshine.
‣ The SDD system has no more additional costs and works with robust 3-
phase pumps, which are significantly more durable.
‣ The design for the 3-phase motors also requires significantly fewer PV
modules than the comparable systems with single-phase pumps
‣ The units are equipped with passive radiators instead of fans, which
means that not much to no maintenance, no repairs as with fan drives,
thus hardly care and very robust.
