V
ictor Delgado attributes his music
business success to “the gift of gab.”
The lobby of his Yorba Linda
shop, The Music Lab, is less like a
sterile reception area and more like
a shrine to classic rock.
Once people come in, his artifacts hook
them, getting them talking, get them interest-
ed. There’s the ultra-rare ’69 Les Paul and a
gold Elvis record set, complete with a ticket to
a show scheduled days after The King’s death.
Lines of hanging guitars are accentuated by
long horn skulls. A picture of Stevie Ray
Vaughan greets you when you walk through
the door.
In more than 20 years of business at the cor-
ner of Main Street and Lemon Drive, some
20,000 aspiring music students have walked
through Delgado’s doors.
The Music Lab has nurtured a handful of
stars. Social Distortion bassist John Maurer
tuned up his technique and Atreyu’s Dan Ja-
cobs came to learn guitar, Delgado said.
Notable locals have passed through Delga-
do’s doors, as well: race car driver Brittany
Force took piano lessons and former Angels
general manager Tony Reagins learned the
bass.

equivalent of a college-level “A” –
on all of them.
Rhee learned of her accom-

after the exam, which was admi-
