Professor Katsuo Tamaoka
Section of Languages and Cultures (Gengo-bunka-bumon)
Institute for Liberal Arts and Sciences (Kyoyo-kyoiku-in)
Nagoya University
Dear Dr. Tamaoka,
It is a matter of great pleasure for me to write a letter of recommendation for Dr.
Anamika Sharma for a full-time position in Japan. She had joined our faculty as an
Associate Professor (visiting) from April 1, 2009. Currently she teaches various courses
as part of the syllabus of our department of World Englishes as well as a seminar course
on Indian culture. She had shown great commitment and efficiency in handling students
of English as a second language class in the previous academic year, and this was further
evident from the fact that she did not need any make-up classes. To demonstrate our
satisfaction and appreciation of her work, we have extended her (Visiting) Associate
Professorship for a second year with effect from April 1, 2010.
Dr. Sharma possesses a very amiable personality and it is a pleasure to work with her.
She is very popular with her students. Last autumn she delivered an impressive paper to
our students on Autonomy in the Classroom. She has published several papers in her first
year here. She is passionate both about her research and teaching. She will be presenting
a paper at the forthcoming IAWE Conference in Vancouver this July.
Apart from her excellent academic contribution, Dr. Sharma has also helped us greatly
with our annual gakushuu-happyo-kai, event, and shows great willingness and spirit of
cooperation with regard to various administrative and extracurricular activities.
I may also mention here that Dr. Sharma had begun to study Japanese language on a
regular basis soon after she arrived in Japan, and at present still continues to do so. I am
sure that in the coming months and years she will be able to imbibe the language well.
I feel that Dr. Sharma will be a valuable asset to any university in Japan, and I have no
hesitation in strongly recommending her case for a full-time employment in your
University.
I wish her all the best.
Sincerely,
Sanzo Sakai, Dean & Professor of Graduate Program
