3. INTRODUCTION
•The main intend of narco-analysis test is to extract information from the
accused when he is in the hypnotic state. And the entire responsibility of this
procedure is on the doctor & the forensic psychologist.
• Narkc = aneasthesia / torpor
•Horseley coined the term
•Robert Earnst House –Father of truth serum
•It’s a process of abreaction or catharsis.
•It is also known as Truth Serum or Drug Hypnosis or Narco interview

•It first reached the main stream in 1922, when Robert
House, a Texas obstretrician used the drug Scopolamine
on two prisoners.
•American Armed Forces & Intelligence Agencies
continued to experiment with Truth Drug mostly
Barbiturate during & after war.
•It was widely used in 1940’s

• Marijuana was used as a truth serum by the office of Strategic Service (OSS) , a US government
intelligence agency formed during World War II.
6. WHAT ARE NARCO ANALYSIS TESTS ?
The subjects imagination is neutralized by making the accused semi-
conscious. In this state , it becomes difficult for him to lie & his answers
would be a restricted facts he is already aware of. Expert inject the
subject with SODIUM AMYTAL.
The dose is dependent on the Peron's sex, age ,health & physical
condition. A wrong dose can result a person going into a coma, or even
death.
The answers are believed to be spontaneous as a semi-conscious
person is unable to manipulate the answers.

Psyhoactive drugs used in an effort to obtain information from subjects
who are unable or unwilling to provide it.
These include,

12. EFFECT OF DRUG ON CNS
•Principle mechanism is the positive allosteric modulation of
GABAA receptors.
•GABA is the principal inhibitory neuro transmitter in the
CNS. Barbiturates bind to the GABA receptor at the beta
subunit, which are binding sites distinct from GABA itself.

• Hyperpolarization of cells

Forensic psychologist or psychiatrist facilitate the interview
Nystagmus observing by testing examinee’s eye with finger
Complete narco interview is audio-video recorded & also written.

20. LEGAL STATUS IN INDIA
•On 5th may 2010 Supreme Court Of India
concluded following point with respect to
this test:
•Article 20(3) of the Indian Constitution “ No
person accused of any offence shall be
compelled to be a witness against himself”
•The test result can’t be admitted as evidence
if they have been obtained through the use of
compulsion.
