Coronavirus lockdown impact in india
1. Coronavirus pandemic had caused lockdown in India. Lockdown was
initiated by the Indian Government with the sole aim to break the chain
of transmission of the virus. Hence the people were warned against the
spread and advised to take the precautionary measures in order to
control the coronavirus spread and act vigilantly during the crisis.
Lockdown is the mere extension of social distancing concept as the
system wants to prepare itself for extreme situations and keep the health
departments ready for any further outbreak. The thought of flattening
the curve through social distancing is reducing the number of people
infected by the coronavirus and make preparations to handle further
consequences of the coronavirus pandemic. Lockdown may have
reduced the spread of the coronavirus but whether we achieved the
desired result is yet to be known.
Lockdown in India was viewed as a solution as it turned out to be a
prudent option to control the spread and contain the coronavirus
outbreak among mankind with the strategically imposed restrictions. The
lockdown has both positive as well as adverse effects. Notable positive
effects include a decline in public movement, comparatively less or no
traffic and an increase in mobile traffic as people are restricted to homes
who are checking on their closest kith and kin on their wellness aspects.
On the wider perspective, it is reported that our holy river Ganges water
got purified and even deemed as fit for drinking which was referred as
one of most polluted rivers earlier, global atmospheric air quality had
improved considerably because of less or no pollution due to lockdown
and also reported that earth is healing truly devoid of pollution, smog
and other elements which had negative impact earlier. Another
important positive effect would be the improvement in social relationship,
culture and family value among the people as most of them are forced to
stay at home due to the lockdown restrictions. It will help them to
rekindle their lost relationship with positive results.
Due to the lockdown, retail, recreation, grocery, pharmacy, parks and
public transportation had been suffering very badly as their usage and
necessity had been compromised and restricted vastly. Acting
proactively regarding the coronavirus spread by rigorous implementation
of testing will help alleviate the situation for better prospects. On the flip
side when we analyze the adverse and negative effects of lockdown we
can very well say that economic breakdown seems to be the primary
negative effect. It is rather imperative to focus on the economic
wellbeing to ensure that it does not fall deep else might need huge
efforts to resurrect back as the lockdown may have produced
containment of virus to a certain extent. Most of the companies are
2. planning for attrition on a large scale due to the coronavirus pandemic
and lockdown. As a result, the ratio of unemployment will definitely see
the spike in the coming months. Recently Uber had laid off more than
3000 employees. Even poverty status will also become more prominent
among mankind because of the lockdown.
Real estate sector was already slow earlier and now it has a drastic
setback due to the lockdown. As a result of this real estate setback,
associated industries like cement, ceramics etc would have a major
impact as well. Small businesses are severely hit during the lockdown.
As all the non-essential businesses and shops were shut down, all the
street vendors, daily wagers, construction workers and poverty-stricken
people and homeless were left with no choice and source of income for
the daily bread. They are exposed to hunger, starvation, and
unemployment and remain unknown as what the future holds for them.
Due to lack of public transportation in lockdown, migrant workers were
even noted walking across from their place of work to their respective
home to escape the potential starvation, lack of income to sustain
livelihood and the fear of homelessness. Automobile industry faced
major setback with Maruti Suzuki reporting zero sales for the month of
April 2020. The education system is also facing setback as most of their
examinations and regular sessions are delayed or getting postponed
invariably.
Employees are facing anxiety issues because they are already facing a
salary cut because of lockdown and worried about job security as there
are chances of downsizing. Some of the organizations are even
providing happiness sessions over video conferencing with the help of
psychologists to keep their stress level under control. Apart from
emotional stress and anxiety issues, work from home employees are
also facing insomnia, backaches, headaches, nightmares and
restlessness problems because of the prolonged work from home status
as most of the private employees are accustomed to once or twice a
month work from home normally. This prolonged work from home status
is quite contrary to the normal working in office pattern where they would
be interacting with people, holding meetings in conference rooms but
here everything is online and people end up with headaches and
backaches as they are glued to computer screen or mobile for longer
hours. Due to the work from home status, it is hard to distinguish the
line between personal and professional life as we are stuck to home
mostly and both responsibilities pile up leaving the people exhausted.
Health experts had suggested following the path of meditation, physical
exercise and yoga to keep the mind and body active and rejuvenate
3. from exhaustion. They even suggested people utilize the time to pursue
their hobbies to de-stress and get back to normalcy.
India is looking ahead currently to relax the restrictions pertaining to their
respective coronavirus status as it cannot afford to shut down for longer
periods. Already the lockdown had a massive and deteriorating effect
on the livelihood of people as they are virtually restrained to their homes
mostly even if we have a valid and reasonable explanation and reasons
for the lockdown. Hence Indian government even came up with the
strategy for moving out stranded migrant people from every state to their
respective states through special trains operated by Indian Railways.
On the whole the lockdown in India might have brought down the
numbers reasonably but our system in India was not clear on a set
target goal that needs to be reached so that they can plan on relaxing
the restrictions. This needs to be addressed effectively otherwise the
lockdown may not receive the optimum result. Containment zones and
contact tracing may have slowed down the spread but this might
become difficult if the Indian government issues directives for relaxing
the restriction as we are unsure of our lockdown goals. Hot and humid
climate might restrict the coronavirus spread but India’s densely
populated cities might remain vulnerable to the after-effects. Social
distancing concept will continue in public places, transport, offices and
far beyond. Hence travelling across states and countries will never be
the same again. So, it is quite unlikely for life of mankind returning to
normal easily even after lifting the lockdown or with relaxing the
restrictions. The future of businesses like gym, bars, movie theaters,
sports and music events remain bleak and uncertain as these cannot
operate without large crowds. It will definitely take a considerable
amount of time for people to resurface and identify their lifestyle which
they held before the coronavirus
