4. WelcomeA very warm welcome to our 2020 brochure! Here at Ammerdown,
we pride ourselves on offering individuals space and time away
from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. All of us need time to
reflect, think and to be in the present. Whether you are on your
own retreat, one of our courses, staying for B&B or with a larger
group on a conference, you will always receive a warm welcome
at our centre. Our experienced staff will settle you in, so that you
can enjoy every minute of your stay with us. Our Core Values of
Hospitality, Peace and Reconciliation are embedded in all that we
do and offer at Ammerdown.
This year, in addition to our brochure, look out for the Ammerdown
Quarterly Supplement, with details of talks and weekly short courses.
We look forward to welcoming you soon!
With warm wishes

5. Our Vision
Ammerdown believes in a shared world; where diversity and different identities are cherished; where
all can live free from the fear of violence and abuse, with dignity and respect; and where differences and
conflicts are transformed peacefully.
Our Mission
Ammerdown was established in 1973 as a Christian foundation. It exists to promote peace, justice and
reconciliation in a safe place of hospitality, where people of differing views or faiths can engage in dialogue
and can pursue their journeys of prayer, faith or enquiry.
Vision and Mission 5
6. Our Heritage
The Ammerdown Centre was set up in the early seventies
by Lord Hylton, John Todd, Father Ralph Russell and Rev
Reginald Trevett. In 1965, the second Vatican Council
issuedastrongcallfortherenewalofthefaithofindividuals
and, through them, the renewal of society.
The vision was for an adult education centre that would
translate the aspirations of Vatican II into practice. In
particular, they wanted to help the ecumenical movement
grow,promotedialoguebetweentheChurchandthewider
world, and bring people from different backgrounds and
faiths together so that they could learn from each other.
This vision continues today.

9. Interfaith at Ammerdown
Since its inception, the Ammerdown Centre has welcomed thousands of
people from all faiths, and none. At the heart of its vision is the creation of
a safe place where people from different backgrounds and beliefs can learn
about each other. The Ammerdown Interfaith Project was set up in 2017 to
address faith and race-related hate crime. It is hoped that through connecting
people, listening to each otherās stories and sharing them, we will break down
prejudices; remember our common humanity and be inspired to make a
difference. In this brochure, you will find a number of courses which encourage
us to connect with āthe otherā, in addition to talks which are presented in our
Ammerdown Quarterly Supplement. Make sure you are on our mailing list
to receive the latest updates.
People of all faiths and none are
warmly welcomed.
The Ammerdown Interfaith Project is supported by The Methodist Church,
The Beeston Community Trust and The Ammerdown Centre.
