Today, I have tried to explain the Job profile of Railway JE (Junior Engineer), salary,
and RRB Group C post. Salary is Rs. - 35,400 to 46,200 & Level -6.
The required Medical Standard is A3. After joining the post of JE, there are two scopes
of promotion.
1. A JE can appear for a departmental exam followed by an interview for Assistant
Grade Officer after 5 years of Job.
If u pass the exam, you will be promoted to the Assistant Grade post (Group-B) in the
corresponding department.
The Pay Scale is Rs. - 47,600 to 62,200 & Level - 8.
2. Otherwise, after 10 years of job, you will be promoted as SSE ( Sr. Section Engineer).
The Pay Scale of SSE is Rs. - 44,900 to 58,600 & Level - 7. The required Medical Standard
is A3.
I. Civil Engineering
Educational qualification for JE post is the following: - (a) Three years Diploma in Civil
Engineering or B.Sc in Civil Engineering of three years duration
OR,
(b) a combination of any sub stream of basic streams of Civil Engineering from a
Recognized University/Institute.

2. I.a Post & Nature of Job
1. Junior Engineer / Engg.(B&F):-
As the name implies, JE (Building & Factory), they are mostly concerned with works related to building &
factory. It is a field job of 24 hours of service in nature.
2. Junior Engineer (STR):-
This job is also concerned with Civil Engineering Deptt. It is a field job of 24 hours service nature.
3. Jr. Engineer/ P-Way:-
This job is directly related to Permanent way means Railway Track maintenance. It is a field job of 24
hours.
4. Jr. Engineer/ Bridge:-
This job is directly related to the maintenance & new Construction of Railway Bridges. It is a field job of
24 hours.
5. Jr. Engineer (Works):-
This job is directly related to the maintenance & new Construction of Railway Buildings. It is a field job of
24 hours.
6. Jr. Engineer Drawing (Civil) & Design & Estimation:-
It is a concern with Drawing, Design & Estimation. For preparing any tender all three works are done. Job
is office nature means 10-6 hours, not 24 hours.
7. Jr. Research Engineer/Engg.:-
It is the concern with Research works in RDSO or any other Railway Research Institute. The job type is
office nature means 10-6 hours, not 24 hours.
8. Jr. Engineer (TMS):-
It is the concern with the Track Management System.Job type is Mixed means field & office nature both,
depends upon your posting.
II. Mechanical / Electrical / Electronics Engineering
Educational qualification for direct recruitment for following SSE post is following : -
Three years Diploma in (a)Mechanical / Electrical / Electronics / Manufacturing/
Mechatronics / Industrial / Machining / Instrumentation & Control / Tools & Machining
/ Tools & Die Making / Automobile / Production Engineering
OR,
(b) a combination of any sub stream of basic streams of Mechanical / Electrical /
Electronics / Manufacturing / Mechatronics / Industrial / Machining / Instrumentation &
Control/ Tools & Machining / Tools & Die Making / Automobile/ Production Engineering
from a recognized University / Institute.
Note:
Below mentioned conditions vary from board to board.
i) For RRB/Jammu/DMW, for the post of JE(Mech) at least 50% intake shall be from
Mechanical Engineering alone. All candidates selected will however be borne on a
Common cadre.

3. (ii) For RRB/Secunderabad for the posts of JE(C&W), JE(Mechanical Work Shop),
JE(Dsl Mech)& JE (Dsl Elect) at least 50% intake shall be from Mechanical Engineering
alone. All candidates selected will however be borne on a Common cadre.
(iii) For RRB/Bangalore/SWR for the posts of JE(Diesel Electrical) 100% intake will be
from Mechanical/Electrical/ Electronics only.
II.a Post & Nature of Job
1. Jr. Engineer (Mechanical) (Workshop):-
It is a concern with Railway Manufacturing and Maintenance Factory. The job type is shift duty in any one
shift or rotational shift pattern.
2. Jr. Engineer Mechanical:-
It is not categorized in any specialization. This means the nature of the job depends upon your posting
C&W, DSL, or Workshop.
3. Jr. Engineer (Carriage & Wagon):-
It is directly concerned with Goods & Passenger Trains maintenance at nominated depots. Shift duty or
can say the 24-hour job.
4. Jr. Engineer / Dsl Mechanical:-
It is directly concerned with Engine maintenance at nominated depots. Shift duty or can say the 24-hour
job.
5. Jr. Engineer / Dsl Electrical:-
It is directly concerned with Engine maintenance at nominated depots. Shift duty or can say the 24-hour
job.
6. Jr. Engineer J&T (Jig & Tools):-
It is concerned with Railway Manufacturing and Maintenance Factories. The job type is shift duty in any
one shift or rotational type shift pattern.
7. Jr. Engineer (Drawing & Design) Mechanical:-
It is a concern with Drawing & design. Job is office nature means 10-6 hours, not 24 hours.
III.Electrical And Electronics & Communication
Engineering
Educational qualification for JE post is the following: - Three years Diploma in (a)
Electrical / Electronics & Communication Engineering OR (b) a combination of any sub
stream of basic streams of Electrical / Electronics & Communication Engineering from a
recognized University / Institution.
III.a Post & Nature of Job
1. Jr. Engineer Electrical (TRD):-
TRD-Traction Distribution. Maintenance of Locomotives in workshops. Shift Duty.
2. Jr. Engineer Electrical (TRS):-
TRS-Traction Rolling Stock. Maintenance of Locomotives in openline. 24-hour job in the field.

4. 3. Jr. Engineer (Electrical) / Workshop:-
It is the concern with Railway Manufacturing and Maintenance Factory.Job type is shift duty in any one
shift or rotational type shift.
4. Jr. Engineer (Drawing/ Design & Drawing) Electrical:-
It is related to Drawing & design.Job is office nature means 10-6 hours not 24 hours.
IV. Electrical, Electronic Communication & IT
Engineering
Educational qualification for JE post is following : - Three years Diploma in (a) Electrical
/ Electronics / Information Technology / Communication Engineering,
OR (b),
a combination of any sub stream of basic streams of Electrical / Electronics / Information
Technology / Communication Engineering from a recognized University / Institution.
IV.a Post & Nature of Job
1. Jr. Engineer (Signal):-
It is concerned with signal-related trains running. Mixed nature job -a combination of office & field.
2. Jr. Engineer (Drawing/ Design&Drawing) Electrical:-
It is a concern with Drawing, Design & Estimation. For preparing any tender all three works are done. Job
is office nature means 10-6 hours, not 24 hours.
3. Jr. Engineer (Telecommunication):-
It is concerned with the maintenance of Railway Telecommunication systems. It is also a field duty & 24x7
duty type.
4. Jr. Engineer (S&T) Workshop:-
It is the concern with Railway Manufacturing and Maintenance Factory. The job type is shift duty in any
one shift or rotational pattern shift.
5. Junior Engineer Drawing/ Drawing & Desing/ Signal/ S&T Drawing/S&T:-

Educational qualification for following JE post is following : - B.Tech(CS) / B.Tech(IT),
PGDCA / B.Sc (Computer Science) / BCA /DPEACC/ DOEACC "A" level course of three
years duration or equivalent from a recognized University / Institution. Further, I have

1. Junior Engineer (IT):-
It is related to the Computer & its software maintenance of posted section. Job is office nature means 10-6

VIII. Chemical & Metallurgy Engineering
Educational qualification for JE post is the following: - Degree in Metallurgy / Chemical
Engineering from Recognised Institution approved by AICTE (OR)M.Sc Degree in
