2. How dangerous is MI?
• MI is commonly known as heart attack
• The major cause is IHD
• RF can be classified into:
1-modified factors as: smoking, obesity , hypertension ,
hyperlipidemia and DM
2- unmodified factors as : age , gender , family history .
Usually it begins as result if ischemia resulting g in angina
pectoris , if not controlled well in may lead to MI and it
complications
3. Epidemiology of MI:
• Coronary artery disease is the leading cause of morbidity and
mortality worldwide, especially in developing countries .
• The morbidity rate has been increasing since1990
• Every year, 735000 Americans have HA
• 1 out of 6 individuals in the US died from MI
• 10% of MI occur before age of 40 & 40% in age before 65
• The survival rate for those who hospitalized is 95%
4. What about in Saudi Arabia?
• In 2017 , a study in SA of 55 participants from different
enrolled clinics has shown that half of them were having 3 or
more RF related to CVS diseases , most ere hypertensive and
smokers .
