  1. 1. Non-communicable or chronic diseases  -are diseases of long duration and generally  slow progression. The four main types of non- communicable diseases are cardiovascular  diseases (like heart attacks and stroke),  cancer, chronic respiratory diseases (such as  chronic obstructed pulmonary disease and  asthma) and diabetes.
  2. 2. It is a disease of the heart  and blood vessels. This is the leading cause  of mortality in the  Philippines.
  3. 3. Heart attack-  Occurs when the heart  muscles tissues dies  from lack of oxygen  because of reduced  blood flow.
  4. 4. •Hypertension or High Blood Pressure Occurs when blood pressure is  higher than normal. Blood  pressure is the force of the  blood on the inside walls of the  blood vessels. 
  5. 5. Systolic Diastolic
  6. 6. Stroke-   also known as  “cerebrovascular accident”. Occurs when a clot blocks a  small blood vessel in the  brain..
  7. 7. A group of disease where in the cells divide in an uncontrolled phase.
  8. 8. Benign Tumors- not cancerous May grow larger but do not spread to other parts of the body.
  9. 9. MALIGNANT Masses of cells that are cancerous. They may spread to other parts of the body.
  10. 10. What is the difference between benign and malignant tumors?  They can often be removed, and, in most cases, they do not come back. Cells in benign tumors do not spread to other parts of the body. Malignant tumors are cancerous and are made up of cells that grow out of control. Cells in these tumors can invade nearby tissues and spread to other parts of the body.

  12. 12. Carcinoma Most common form of cancer. Breast, uterus, prostate, lung, stomach, colon and rectum
  13. 13. Sarcoma Connective or supportive cancers which include muscle, bone, fat, blood vessels and cartilage cancers.
  14. 14. Lymphoma Cancers arising in cells of lymphatic tissues or the immune system.
  15. 15. Leukemia A cancer in the blood or bone marrow.
  16. 16. WAYS TO TREAT CANCER Radiation therapy- uses high energy radiation to kill or damage cancer cells.
  17. 17. Immunotherapy treatment where the immune system is stimulated to fight cancer cells.
  18. 18. Chemotherapy treatment under medication of anti- cancer drugs which can kill cancer inside the body.
  19. 19. How can you reduce the risk of Cancer?
  20. 20. Identify the signs and symptoms of cancer. Do have regular check-ups Practice non-tobacco lifestyle Avoid too much exposure to sun Eat fruits and vegetables
  21. 21.  Observe meats you eat  Exercise and maintain the right weight  Be aware of family’s history of cancer.  Avoid drinking alcohol  Avoid being exposed to dangerous chemicals and airborne fibers
  22. 22. A disease in which the body produces little or no insulin at all.
  23. 23. Type 1 Diabetes “Insulin dependent diabetes” Increased thirst, frequent urination, continuous hunger, weight loss, blurred vision tiredness.
  24. 24. Type 2 Diabetes “Non-Insulin dependent” Gestational Diabetes Occurs is females during pregnancies
  25. 25. A chronic condition in which breathing becomes difficult.
  26. 26. “HYPERSENSITIVITY Exaggerated response to an antibody forming substance or antigen. Not- contagious.
