6. Bases of Power
Formal Power
―It’s based on an individual’s position in an
organization. Formal power can come from the ability
to coerce or reward, or from formal authority.
Coercive Power – A power base dependent on fear.
Reward Power – Compliance achieved based on the ability
to disturbed rearwards that other view as valuable.
Legitimate Power – The power a person can receives as
a result of his/her position in the formal hierarchy of an
organization. “Eg :- Niana lal kidwai, Managing,
V.Chairman of HSBC bank.”
7. Informal/ Personal Power
- Power that come from individuals' unique
characteristics. Two bases of Personal Power are:
Expert Power – Influence based on special skills
or knowledge.
Referent Power – Influence based on
possession by an individual of desirable
recourses or personal traits.
