Basics of HVDC, its components, working & classification of HVDC system, comparison of HVDC & HVAC, advantages and disadvantages of HVDC all are discussed here.
HVDC Transmission system is a combination of AC and DC systems, first, the generated AC voltage is converted into DC at the transmission end, and when it reaches the receiving end DC is inverted to AC for distribution purposes. So, in order to carry out this operation, we need conversion devices for both ends of the transmission line.
HVDC Transmission system helps in reducing power losses and improves the efficiency of the transmission system. Besides, the HVDC system is more economical as compared to HVAC but only for long distances (more than 600km).
HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) Transmission system is more economical for the transmission of power over long distances as compared to AC transmission.
