EST. MMXIII • NVM DESIGN, NYC.
LOOKBOOK ONE
NVM is a design company founded out of an interest in technology and its potential to
challenge the frontiers of design. As more powerful technologies become increasingly
available to the public, we ask: can one apply new tools while still retaining a high level
of craftsmanship? In building our collection, we set out to explore the tension between
the two, channeling the beauty we came to uncover.
NVM believes in exclusive, limited runs and one-of-a-kind, numbered pieces. Every one
of our items is 3D printed, then hand finished by local artisans to ensure it stands as a
true reflection of the design’s original vision. We make all of our pieces in New York,
centering our production around the city and its people. Our design was born out of
our studio in Lower Manhattan and our pieces printed in Midtown, then finished by our
jewelers in the City’s historic Diamond District. We have committed to working with a
varied group of young artists and established craftsmen, collaborating with both the
enduring and emerging talents of New York.

CHLOE CHOKER — The Chloe Choker is
our most versatile piece. Worn day to night,
it captures the essence of the NVM woman:
innate elegance and cool confidence.

The theme of this first collection is Rebirth. The first creative element used was lichen, a
dry moss which grows on trees and stones. We gathered the actual lichen from Cold Spring,
NY and adapted it to many of our pieces after scanning it and then digitally manipulating
it to meet our vision. Our second element is a ‘crystal’ texture we generate with a computer
algorithm that replicates, adjusts, and places individual cubes to create a cohesive look.
Having consciously forgone the use of gems and stones, the design of each piece draws the
eye to detail, be it large or small, by creating distinctive texture. Accentuated by the lichen
and crystals, our lines are simple, at times soft and understated, at times strong and bold. Our
shapes tame the chaos of detail.

SCARA PENDANT — The body of the Scara
Pendant is modeled from the base of a Roman
amphora. Worn with a white t-shirt or a
low cut top, the Scara is adaptable as it is
understated.
VESPER EARINGS — The peculiar bottom
shape of the Vesper Earrings has been
re-envisioned through the centuries, our
variation drawing inspiration from Sumerian
court jewelry. The Vesper earrings are worn
best as standalone pieces.

At NVM we use cutting edge 3D printing technology to explore new possibilities for design.
100 years ago, machines and factories changed the way objects in our lives were produced.
Designers and architects like Raymond Loewy and Mies van der Rohe responded with forms
that expressed the spirit of the new machines: efficiency, speed, and precision. These designs
came to represent the changes of their time and made the modern world more beautiful.
Today, a new set of technologies is changing the way objects are made. The smooth,
unadorned shapes of the last century were driven by efficiency, but 3D printers can make
complex shapes just as easily as simple ones. At NVM, we build pieces that express the ideals
of this new technology, using 3D printers and scanners to do things that would be difficult, if
not impossible, with traditional tools alone.
NVM TECHNOLOGY
—
NIKKI NAMEPLATE — The Nikki Nameplate
is our most lighthearted and youthful piece.
Its focus is solely upon the simplicity of the
lines and shapes of the crystals utilized
throughout the collection.
MERA DROP NECKLACE — The Mera
Necklace epitomizes our lichen collection.
The wild texture growing over the smooth
stone surface draws the eye to the dichotomy
of the metal as both canvas and form.

BETH STUDS — Quiet yet transfixing, the
Beth Studs serve as the perfect complement to
any woman’s outfit.

Martin Griswold is compelled by a
fascination with the history of technology,
specifically its subtle impacts on design
and culture.
He brings to NVM technical skill honed
in his previous work as a physicist and
an abundance of trivia on the history of
bicycles and shipping containers.
Before founding NVM, Martin earned a
PhD in physics at Princeton University. He
currently lives in New York.
Allegra Crespi comes to NVM with an
appreciation for emerging technologies
and a love of classical aesthetics.
Born and raised in Paris, Rome and New
York by a family with deep roots in the
fashion industry, the importance of art,
beauty and craftsmanship was impressed
upon her at an early age.
Prior to founding NVM, Allegra worked
in creative consulting and studied
sociology at Columbia University. She
currently resides in New York with her
Australian Sheepdog, Dash.
MAIA & ELECTRA CUFFS — Named
after the two eldest Pleiades, the Maia
and Electra Cuffs celebrate sisterhood:
similar, yet distinct.

SHIELD RINGS — Inspired by the swell of a wave, the Shield
Rings embody the essence of the modern woman: soft yet
strong, smooth yet multifaceted, they bestow upon their
owner an aura of protection.
