17. The introduction of mobile money has changed the way consumers spend. With the
innovation of technology consumers are steadily throwing away the dollar bills and coins in
replace of M-banking and crypto currencies. This newly developed idea of virtual money
will be used by banks and retailers around the world known as social currency. The best
known crypto currency in known as Bitcoin. The website Coingen allow users to develop
their own crypto currencies, while Ripple is a system that allows transfer of currency
anywhere in the world for a minimal charge. With increased transparency, and more focus
on philanthropic and community endeavors, consumers are beginning to trust brands more
than banks or governments. Amazon has created a system called, Amazon Coins; 500 coins
are received when a customer buys a Kindle Fire which can then be exchanged for Kindle
Fire apps, games or in-app items. Starbucks has also created an initiative called Starbucks
Stars which part of a reward system where customers collect stars based on their purchases
which can be redeemed against future produce. Online reputations are becoming a more
reliable way to develop trust. A movement known as reputation economy is becoming
popular. Reputatiion economy is banks and institutions determining the eligibility for loans
or the suitability for a new job role through an applicant’s online activity. Through analysis of
the applicant’s online activity, the service determines their ability to pay back a loan. For
New York Fashion Week Marc Jacobs opened a Pop-Up Tweet Shop where transactions were
carried out based on the use of the hashtag #MJDaisyChain, thus developing a fun and
frivolous virtual currency.

RISING SEA LEVELS
The rise of sea levels and increase flooding has caused the subaquatic life is
becoming a reality. Sitbon Architects have designed a conceptual project called
Bloom. Bloom is a phytoplankton farm in the sea that breeds microscopic
organisms to produce more oxygen. This phytoplankton farm can also be used to
study rising sea levels, acting as the first line of defense against impending
tsunamis. Danish architects Tredje Natur and PK3 are seeking to transform
Copenhagen’s harbor by creating a series of artificial islands.
21. The erosion and overpopulation of landscapes have led architects to invest in
underground dwellings. Oppenheim Architecture and Design created 47 carved
lodges in Wadi Rum, Jordan, using the existing geological structures. The company
BNKR Arquitectura, created the upside-down skyscraper or “earthscraper”
proposed for Mexico City. It houses shops and offices. Skyscraper competition
projects downwards into the ground, using a central lighting system to brighten and
ventilate each space. Architect James Ramsey of RAAD Studio initiated the
development of the LowLinein New York - a subterranean space that would house
his fiber-optic skylight system. Ramsey imagines this space as a bridge between the
past and the future. In Paris, Architects Manal Rachdi and Nicolas Laisné were
commissioned to reinvent disused metro stations, resulting in architectural designs
for swimming pools, restaurants and art galleries.

23. Artist Li Hongbo created paper sculptures constructed from stacks of layered
paper that can flex and contort into eye-popping shapes. Hongbo
transforms everyday objects into beautiful pieces art and create shapes
that mimic the movement of accordion pleats. Hongbo’s poreclain like
scultpures are thousands of layers of soft white paper which open and fold
to create human heads.

In today’s fashion freedom has prevailed. Previously fashion was a dictator, issuing rigid
commands about the season’s must-have silhouette and color. But with society’s complex
and multifaceted lives closets have been compacted with numerous trends; from an array of
colors, to interesting silhouettes, pattern mixes and even unexpected decorations. As
advances in technology pave the way; fashion trails shortly behind. The implementation of
drones in today’s society will not only push the boundary in politics, war and agriculture, but
also in beauty, fitness and fashion. Beauty Tech Designer Katia Vega has created a line of
beauty technology in wearable computing that hides electronic components within beauty
products. According to Vega this, “combines conductive materials and beauty items to allow
users to remotely control drones with a simple touch or wink”. & Vega states, A practical use
of this beauty phenomenon is, “blinking to levitate objects.” Katia Vega developed a FX e-
makeup application called Kinsi. Kinsi tries to answer the question: "Could your skin act as an
interface?" Kinisi could change the world with a smile, a wink, raising her eyebrow or closing
her lips. Each of these muscle movements will trigger different light patterns. A combination
of FX makeup with sensors were precisely applied on specific muscles.

body as a new input device” – Katia Vega
