Several causes of homelessness include:
Inflation
Rising rents
Decreases in the social safety net
High unemloyment
Health/mental problems
The increase, driven by years of rising costs in the island chain, low wages and limited land, thrust the image of people sleeping on beaches alongside the state's famed one of a relaxing tropical paradise.
Homelessness is often associated with chronic health conditions, such as:
HIV
Tuberculosis
Seizures
The growingly scarce supply of available housing causes sellers to increase prices, which then results in the inability to afford a place to live.
Many people’s income are unable to keep up with the rising costs of homes. The increase in the standard of living such as skyrocketing property taxes, food, gasoline, and healthcare costs all also play a huge factor on why people become homeless.
Homelessness affects the quality of life of all of Honolulu's residents and visitors.
