1. In what ways does
your media product use,
develop or challenge
forms and conventions of
real media products?
2. During my product research I evaluated a number of
different existing products which are similar to what I
was trying to produce. These products are the main
influences behind my short opening sequence,
therefore I decided to use certain aspects of the
short opening sequence. For example the entire
opening sequence is a fast, but simple chase scene.
The fugitive inspired the chase aspect of my short
opening sequence, by influencing my decision to keep
the opening sequence simple, but fast. This can be
identified by the way cuts have been used, I have
ensured that the speed of the cuts are very rapid.
This makes the different scenes switch very quickly,
increasing the speed of the chase.
3. Despite the fact that my short opening sequence has
been inspired by a few existing products there are a
few ways in which challenges media conventions. For
example, the use of sound is a clear sound. Whenever
the antagonist appears a futuristic, science-fiction
like sound plays. This fits in with the antagonist’s role
in the play, however it isn’t a conventional feature of
thriller films. I decided to use this sound because it
moulds itself to the structure of the short opening
sequence. Furthermore it makes my short opening
sequence unique, this is something which I wanted to
include in order to separate it from the large array o
existing short opening sequences.
4. As I mentioned on the previous slide my short opening
sequence is unconventional because it uses ‘techno’
sounds, which aren’t a conventional feature of
thriller films. This is the way in which my short
opening sequence is developing the conventions of
real media products. This is something which I aimed
to achieve during the post-production stage of this
project, I wanted to take all of the positive features
of the existing products I researched and include
them in my short opening sequence. Moreover I tried
to expand upon the existing products which I
researched by expanding upon the conventional
sounds used in thriller films. I believe that this has
made my short opening sequence more modern, due
to the fact that I have combined classic and modern
film techniques. This is a technique which could
become a conventional feature of thriller films.
