Strategic Sourcing Department
Grupo Santander’s main competitive advantage hinges on a sustainable cost savings culture that has made it the
second most efficient bank in the world, making Aquanima an instrumental part of the organization by leading
the spend management and driving complete procurement processes through a professional purchasing
methodology supported on technological tools.
Manager of Market Data Category, responsible for Global Projects coordinating the eleven countries where the
Group is located. Strong expertise in outsourcing services category, focused on lean cost and optimization
consulting processes. Well rounded experience on category management and offline negotiations techniques as
well as an extensive knowledge of e-sourcing best practices for competitive tenders.
Selected accomplishments
Manager of Global Market Data Category. Optimization actions: Implementation of corporate
procurement model in that category to Global level; new legal validation process adapted to market,
reducing contracts approval from 1 month to 1 week; improved efficiency of transactional through BPO
department (5MM€ negotiated with a super basic methodology that increases category profitability).
Category management: Category overview (history, spend analysis, suppliers map), market research
and category plan for the 70MM€ of volume in order to establish the strategy to negotiate the best
conditions globally, collaborative work on specific major negotiations to deliver savings quickly.
Co responsible of Payments Means category in Europe. Project started in 2011 with 12 independent
negotiations of payment cards along three countries, 13MM€ with 14% savings (73% online). In 2012,
coordination of a 10 people team for Europe (4 countries), control of 100% of the local perimeters,
implementation of all the necessary technological developments, establishment of the same supply
model in all countries, consolidation of the expiration dates of all contracts in Europe (31/12/2013),
8,5MM€ negotiated with 15% savings this year (95% online). 2013- First Global payment cards
negotiation in Santander Group, management of a 15 people global team (7 countries), 75,2MM€
negotiated with 20,7MM€ savings (27,6%), two only suppliers for all Group and a single supply
process in all countries, largest auction in Banco Santander´s history (100% of volume online).
Management of 26MM€ spend data base for insurance Joint Venture AEGON-Santander. 23MM€
belonging the core service of assistance to customer sinister that had been recursively negotiated during
the last years. Due to the importance of that core service it was necessary to ensure the quality of
service, maintain current suppliers and avoid reckless price drop. 2,7MM€ savings was achieved
through restructuring of pricing and the construction of a backup plan that allowed to reduce current
suppliers panel in order to rise the competition for the awarding of a bigger volume.
Development of new suppliers in printed Payments Means Market (single supplier market of banking
passbooks and checkbooks). Market research and suppliers selection, cost optimization by internal
reconfiguration process, conducting site visits at potential suppliers factories to identify security
improvements, first competitive negotiation online after 5 years with 41% savings vs 3% savings of
prior year, two suppliers awarded broking the monopoly and having a back up to avoid operational risk.
Member of a team formed by legal and operations, in charge of negotiating Back Office services for
Santander Operaciones Retail and to adjust body shopping contracts to current law, avoiding
reputational risk by illegal hiring of workers.
2. Banco Santander (Brasil) – Aquanima (Sao Paulo - Brazil) August 2013 – February 2014
International Mobility Program – Grupo Santander
Awarded entry into the Bank’s Young Talents Program reserved for top 5% employees in the company for
outstanding performance. Relocated to Brazil for 6 months to work on key strategic projects.
Selected accomplishments
Client Management (Payment Means Brazil), leading high level meetings to include local volume
(36MM€ biggest local volume) in Global payment cards negotiation. Coordination of local cards buyers
team and counseling in the definition of technical specifications. The local result for Brazil as a part of
the Global negotiation was 9MM€ savings, best outcome in its history.
Collaboration with commercial team in clients presentations in order to catch new contracts and to
improve my communication skills; driving negotiations of one of those new projects and leadership of
meetings with client from kick off to presentations of results. The project was an strategic sourcing of
20 new laboratories (1,1MM€) for Kroton Educacional (one of the most important organizations of
private education in Brazil). It was the first time this category was negotiated in Aquanima Brazil; the
process was closed in the form of e-sourcing though an electronic auction with a result of 22% savings.
One of the objectives of Santander International Mobility Program is to share knowledge and best
practices between geographies. Optimizations performed in Brazil: adjustment of body shopping
processes to current law, avoiding reputational risk by illegal hiring of workers; redefinition of rules to
generate more basic projects in Ariba platform in order to raise productivity; definition of a new legal
validation process for contracts that reduced 30 days average the approval system; raised standards to
request for information in infrastructure and facilities category.
