Record Label: Job Roles
CEO/President/Owner of a record label:
They manage the company with a mixture of business skills and skills specific
to the music industry. The CEO determines the general direction of the
marketing, the music distribution and other matters.
Vice President
An independent label may haveonly one vice president who oversees the
general day-to-day activities of the record label. In this role, the vice president
is responsiblefor every role that multiple vice presidents would fill at a major
label.
Business Affairs/Accounting
A Qualified Accountant in the music industry is a chartered accountant with
financial expertise within a music industry organisation. SomeAccountants
specialise in copyright, royalties or licensing.
Legal
Entertainment Attorneys help their clients to understand legal agreements.
They negotiate recording, merchandising, touring and publishing contracts, as
well as Producer agreements. They can also help record labels to correctly set
themselves up as a business entity.
A&R/Artist Development
Artists and repertoire is the division of a record label that is responsiblefor
talent scouting and overseeing the artistic development of recording artists
and songwriters.
Marketing
A Marketing Manager is responsiblefor coming up with marketing concepts,
working with the creative department on images and advertisements, develop
marketing strategies and plans, and presentfindings to company executives.

Art Department
Album Cover Designers create cover art and layout for LPs and CDs based off
an artist or label’s design ideas. Responsible for making designing the product
that the customer will buy.
Publicity/Promotions
Work to help improve popularity and the overall public image of an artistor
band. They achieve this by booking gigs and other ways to spread their clients
name and to increase their AD sales.
Sales
A Record Company Salesperson is responsiblefor completing sales of the
label's CDs, DVDs, and videos. To makea sale, the Salesperson visits accounts,
makes phone calls, and mails out letters and other collateral.
