Testimonial / Letter of Reference: Alan McWhirter
I am writing this as a personal reference for Alan McWhirter. In my capacity as a Medical Science Manager
from the Medical Department at Bristol-Myers Squibb Pharmaceuticals Ltd, I supported Alan for about a
year back in 2003 when he was employed as a Senior Specialty (CNS) Hospital Sales Representative.
Alan’s initial role pre-launch, was to identify, contact and then establish and build relationships with the
Medical staff and teams within the Psychiatry and Pharmacy departments of his assigned hospitals.
Within the sales team I found Alan to be very engaged, motivated and driven.
A great team player with an upbeat approach and a great sense of humour. He showed an ability to help
people feel at ease and he built relationships and in so doing earnt their trust. Important personal
attributes, which combined with his technical ability enabled him to establish critical links to ultimately
sell the product.
In accordance with the ABPI Code of Practice, on speaking with the hospital staff Alan knew he would not
be able to discuss any specifics of the compound prior to its license being approved. He was very clear on
this and used me as his resource. Upon the physicians request Alan would set up meetings for me to
present the medical data or 1:1 discussions which he would NOT attend.
I hope that this highlights Alan’s ability to work across the inter-departmental teams within the company
whilst respecting the ABPI Code of Practice.
