Dear Pamela and Marshall,
South Peninsula Hospital was definitely glad to find out that there was another voluntary
benefit carrier in Alaska for employers to choose from.
We had some challenges with our current carrier with participation being low and service
spotty. When Pamela Whitfield came to us, she had ideas to make “voluntary benefit FUN” we
were excited as certainly we wanted the replacement experience to be a good one. We
actually chose to replace Aflac “mid-year” so that the focus could solely be on the voluntary
benefit change (avoiding the busy Nov/Dec open enrollment season).
They brought in a team (Marshall Pickering being the lead benefit counselor) and gave great
presentations that yielded close to 50% participation. They even gave away a plane ticket on
RAVN Air!
Colonial Life provided “guarantee issue” on their disability plan and over 70 employees
purchased a disability plan (which we feel is a very important personal insurance plan). They
also had strong participation in their other programs (Accident, various Life Plans such as Term,
Whole and Universal and Cancer and Critical Illness) and glad that we have these programs
available for our staff…all at no cost to South Peninsula Hospital.
The “Colonial Team” handles new hires and were present at our open enrollment. We made an
excellent choice in making Colonial Life our voluntary benefit carrier for our over 300 employees.
I encourage other Alaskan employers to take the time to truly evaluate their voluntary benefit
program and see why Colonial Life a leader and their Anchorage based “team” eager and ready
to conduct a great enrollment experience.
Sincerely,
