WORK EXPERIENCE
Graduate Research Assistant August 2015 - Present
National Institute for Aviation Research (NIAR), Wichita, KS
Designed and Drafted specimens for Ductile fracture testing using CATIA V5 and documenting them for
fabrication purposes
Tested seat belt webbings and performing stress analysis in LS-DYNA for same to validate the results for FAA
project
Performed Explicit Analysis using LS-DYNA Material Model 24 for Three Point Bending test of aluminum alloy
2024-T351 and comparing the results to testing.
Graduate Research Assistant January 2013 – August 2015
Composites Lab, Wichita State University, Wichita, KS
Performed Linear and Non- Linear Finite Element Analysis using MSC MARC solver for unidirectional
composite laminate under compressive/tensile loading. Worked on structural and thermal analysis for different
laminate stacking sequences with presence of titanium alloy sensor tube at the mid-plane of laminate.
Tested carbon fiber composite laminates with discrete microwire sensors at the mid plane for material
characterization. This was a Kansas government project funded mainly by Learjet.
Manufactured Flat, Curved, L-shaped and Honeycomb core sandwich panels of carbon fiber epoxy prepreg in a
Grieve Oven for a NASA funded project. Inspected the distortion for the same by scanning the panels using
coordinate measuring machine, Romer Absolute Arm. Published a conference paper and contributed to the final
project report.
Worked on design and cure of scarf repair on 5320-8H epoxy resin system composite laminates, using heat
blanket and performed tensile tests using MTS Universal Testing Machine for a NASA grant. Also performed
Digital Image Correlation (ARAMIS) to calculate strain fields near the repair patch.
MASTER’S THESIS
Study of Effects of Defects in CFRP Composites January 2015 - Present
Effects of Sensor tubes on fiber architecture of Cytec Cycom 5320 material system reinforced by carbon fiber
Thornel® T-650/35 3K was studied using Carl Zeiss microscope.
Laminates of size 12” × 12” were manufactured with these tubes at the mid-plane, placed at different orientations.
Tested coupons according to ASTM D6641 to calculate the reduction in compressive strength.
Meso-level stress analysis was performed using MSC Marc to validate the experimental results. Tsai-Wu and
Hashin Tape failure criteria (Progressive Failure) were used to extract stress-strain curves and delamination
failure index was used for the case with no fiber waviness.
The results were part of the final report submitted to Learjet and met the company requirement leading to
extension of the project for another year.
2. OTHER RESEARCH PROJECTS
Low Velocity Impact Damage on Composite Materials August 2011 – April 2012
Investigated low-velocity impact damage on HexPly M21 epoxy resin system composite laminates of several
thickness by conducting impact tests using a drop weight test machine with different impact energies.
Designing of Regional Airliner August 2010 – April 2011
Designed a ‘feeder-liner aircraft’ as a group using CATIA V5, was given the role of propulsion and performance
engineer. Found the thrust requirements and performance of the aircraft.
