How to blend in:
Study Nerds
There are two different groups of study nerds. There are those who sit alone at their
spot and there are those who study in groups. If you want more friends you should
try the group.
And you don’t need to have straight As to make it in these kinds of study groups.
You only need an interest in school.
But first, you have to find them. Try the corridor or the library. When you find them,
don’t disturb the ones that look concentrated. But try those who are chatting while
studying, and take a seat. They will notice you.Don’t worry.
Even if it might feel like they just care about studying from the outside, they are
really nice and will ask you if you need help or even if you want to hang out
sometime. This group is for those who want many friends and like to be social while
studying and for those who like to talk to people that have different opinions.
If you want to study alone you won’t be without friends. At least one person will
notice and talk to you. This type of group is for those who don’t want or need a lot of
friends. Try to find a place where you can sit alone and concentrate. You won’t have
so many people to hang out with outside school, but you will use this time to study
harder!
Popular
To be popular isn’t just about ‘having the right clothes’ or ‘watching the right TV
series’,as many people think. You have to have strong opinions on all sort of things,
but still not too different from the others in this group. When they have their alone-
time they find time to do some studying to keep their grades up. If you like to talk,
this is a group for you. They hang out in the corridor or in the cafeteria and share a
lot of their freetime together. But if you don’t like to gossip try another group.
Football jocks
It’s obvious where the football jocks spend their freetime! Before you go to the
football field you have to know how to play football. If you don’t, you end up in the
group of people who we call the watchers. The football jocks are not the shy type. If
you show interest in the sport they will ask you if you want to join them after school
for some football. In this group, you will find a lot of friends that are nice and honest
and will stay friends for life, as long as you repay that kindness.
The Watchers
This isn’t really a group because they don’t hang out together like the other groups.
Some of them walk around by themselves and just look at all sorts of people and
learn to know them by watching. It’s a kind of one-sided relationship. We know
them as the Wallflowers. Some wallflowers hang out with other groups but stay
silent and observe the others. It may feel kind of creepy to be watched but they are
always there for you and are good listeners. They would never ever leak a big secret
and can stay good friends for years. For some people, this is a big mystery but the
reason they are like this is that they know your bad sides as well as your good sides
and know that all people have bad days and respect it!
Then there are the unknown watchers. They are the opposite of the wallflowers.
They like to talk and won’t say no to a bit of attention. It’s rare to find these watchers,
even if there a lot of them, because they are discreet and probably don’t know that
they are watchers themselves. But they still have this awesome faithfulness. Even if
they talk a lot, they do take the time to listen to you if you need to talk. And like the
wallflowers, they will stay friends for years.
There are a lot of groups you can join. But you can always ignore everything I have
just said and be yourself. Let’s see how that works out...
