BOOKLOOKS
The main focus for
this book is looking into
what makes clothing
companies authentic and
what the real meaning of
authenticity is. With this
information I created my
own interpretation of how
authenticity plays a part
within the clothing industry
by producing a catalogue
and documentary book for
the independent clothing
company ‘Skull and Bones
Boys Club’.
4. 03
This book contains
three sections: the first
section is a look at pre-ex-
isting companies, photog-
raphers and magazines.
The second section (Is
This Authentic Yet) looks
into what authenticity
actually is and what makes
clothing authentic. I made
this section in a smaller
format and used cut out
pieces of text and images
to create this piece in a
different way to the other
two to make it stand
out more as I felt that it
was the most significant
piece. The third section
includes my thoughts on
the project and looking
at the timeline I worked
against to reach my final
outcome which was the
catalogue and documen-
tary books for SABBC.

The aim of this project was to il-
lustrate an event in XL Recordings history
to celebrate 25 years of the company. I
chose to focus on how XL Recordings are
always ‘Revealing new artists’. I wanted
to portray this idea in a way that actual-
ly reveals the image of the artist. I tried
and tested many methods and eventually
found a way that worked so that I could
slowly reveal the image of the artist from
out of the black.
I filmed each of the images being
created to get the actual feel of them being
revealed. These posters show the final prod-
uct of this method and subsequently edited
to create the images above adding small
details in to make it a poster.

The idea of this catalogue was to display
the companies clothes as best as possible by
using models and showing smaller details of the
individual pieces. This catalogue would be used
by stockists of the brand mainly but could also be
put into mass production and shipped out with
orders directly from the brand. I took inspiration
from other clothing companies such as American
Apparel and Urban Outfitters, keeping the design
clean and simple, as the style of clothes and tar-
get market are similar.
SKULL AND BONES BOYS CLUB: CATALOGUE
The idea behind the catalogue and how I got to the
final outcome
7. 06
Above is one of my favourite
spreads from the catalogue, I feel that
the smaller details make this page what
it is, as shown in the images on the
right with the title of each item writ-
ten in white on a black background.
Also the details of the sizing for each
product and colours that it comes in all
displayed in the bottom corner of each
page.
8. 07
The main purpose for this
book is for it to be given to potential
stockists to give them an idea of the
company themselves and also there
is the possibility to use the book
for pop up stores so that customers
coming into the shop know more
about the company.

DOCUMENTARY

companies new garments.
9. 08
This documentary book dis-
plays all sides of the company from
who the owners are, the process of
making the clothes and the pho-
tography for uploading to the web.
I wanted the book to re-
flect what the company are about,
which is why it has a DIY look us-
ing torn out pieces of paper, tape
and staples to collate together an
almost scrapbook like book which
gives a background to the clothing.
All of the photographs and text
used in this book are taken and
written by me so that the entire
book is kept authentic.
10. 09
For this project I decided to go
with the idea of making ‘dangerous
animal’ origami using the black Fedri-
goni paper, hence the slogan ‘Danger-
ously Black’. Once I tested this method
I realised that it didn’t have the desired
effect that I wanted it to and the idea
wasn’t clear enough. I then looked into
3D paper models of the animals howev-
er due to my short time frame I real-
istically couldn’t complete this to the
standard that I would of wanted
I started to then look at digital
ways to create these effects which is
when I found the use of polygon art, I
used this method to flatten the image
yet still give it a three dimensional feel
just as I would of done by using paper.
This is when I came up with the
idea of using the image within a promo-
tional package showing off the range
of paper by having small samples of it
attached to a cut out of the artwork.

How I approached the brief and worked up to
my final outcome
11. 10
I decided to use my collection of found keys
to create this book, alongside each key I have taken
stories from myths and fairytales that refers to a key
of some sort and paired them together as a hypo-
thetical match of where the key could of been from.
I also created a book jacket which is com-
prised of prints of the keys themselves which were
covered in ink and used like a stamp to create prints,
this could also be used as a poster when fully unfold-
ed. To create the grainy effect on the pages I printed
COLLECTIONS
Looking at the choice of keys for my collection
and how the brief has been approached
each page individually and photocopied them in sev-
eral times whilst changing the settings on the copier.
I then rescanned these images in, edited them and
placed them back into the books pages. I did this to
create a feeling of finding the keys amongst the grainy
background so that the reader is able to explore the
book and find the key themselves.

I worked alongside Llana Allana to promote the
peace festival which was based in Hoxton. We covered
four large windows looking out over Hoxton square
with quotes on peace using markers and writing
backwards onto the windows. Alongside this project
I worked with the events managers to create posters
and leaflets to go along with a section of the Peace
festival called Conflict Kitchen.
