1. Platypus Remediation Project
NewSouthWales
The Sydney Harbour Federation Trust set out to transform Sydney’s iconic HMAS Platypus site into a prime public
waterfront area including parklands and commercial rental space. Home to a former gasworks, naval torpedo workshop and
submarine base, the site contained contaminants including petroleum hydrocarbons, volatile organic compounds and
polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons.
As part of the project, the Sydney Harbour Federation Trust engaged our team to remediate on site 30,000 tonnes of
contaminated soil. We installed a 4,000m2
odour control enclosure to safeguard local residents from odours and other
environmental impacts.
Our industry-leading technologies and strict control measures mitigated health and environmental risks in a highly sensitive
area, rehabilitated the site and will allow the Sydney Harbour Federation Trust to re-open this spectacular site to the public
for the first time in more than 130 years.
