1. As part of Production Arts, students have to be a part of various shows. Our next show that
we have to be a part of is taking place at Arley Hall. The A level dancers are performing and
my role in the production is to be a dresser. Dressers have very important duties and
responsibilities. Dressers are responsible for helping the performers get into the costumes
that they are supposed to be in. They have to know what performance is happening at what
time in able for the performers to get onto the stage at the right time.
If there are any problems with the costumes for example, if an outfit is too big, it is the
dressers responsibility to make the costume the right size for the performer. Dressers are
also expected to maintain the costume that the performers wear throughout a run through
so a constant quality of appearance is provided as it is their duty to.
Dressers are also responsible for helping performers during quick changes that occurs
backstage. If a performer finishes a performance and is on the next performance, the
dresser will be there backstage to help them get onto the stage on time. Another one of the
dressers duties is to get the performers onto the stage when they are supposed to be. This
is called running. Because of this, dressers have a responsibility to know the script and cues
so they can do their job by getting the performers onto the stage when needed.
As I am a dresser, I will be under the control of the wardrobe mistress. Any commands or
requests that are made from the wardrobe mistress to the dressers will have to be followed
as it is our job to do so. The wardrobe mistress is under the control of the technical
manager; therefore, any requests or demands made from the technical manager to the
wardrobe mistress must be done. If these demands and requests are not met, then it may
take effect on the performance. I have a small amount of experience with being a dresser as
during the winter show case I was asked to help the performers backstage during quick
changes.
