2. The main theme for our music video is the idea of the seven
deadly sins which is derived from the Bible. These include
envy, gluttony, greed, pride, lust, sloth, vanity and wrath. We
want to focus on the sins of gluttony, greed and lust as these
are the ones that are evident in the lyrics to โGodโs and
Monstersโ.
INITIAL IDEAS
We will show 3 women representing the sins:
โข Gluttony โ a woman pouring black paint over herself from a
milk carton, shot in slow motion for cinematic effect. This will
symbolise indulgence and consumption.
โข Greed โ the song focuses on the want for sex and money, we
had the idea of using gold glitter and dollar bills to represent
the want for money. A woman will also be shown being
showered in these objects.
โข Lust โ to show this, we had the image of a woman surrounded
by men in black suits and masks, and maybe a red rose
representing the collective โmanโ and not an
individual, alluding to sexual relations with more than one
person. We would also make the stylistic choice in editing of
3. We're going to aim our music video to a target audience of
young adult females from the age of 16 - 25. This age
range has been chosen to market our video towards
because the concept of the music video effects mainly
women of this age, so they're able to relate to it. These
girls can be identified with the indie stereotype, though a
large majority can be classed at 'alternative'.
TARGET AUDIENCE
Indie:
Those who do not
conform to widespread
trends from
music, fashion and
film. Tend to have
more of a quirky
nature and like things
that are out of the
ordinary Prefer things
with a history opposed
to something new and
modern, e.g listening
to vinyl's rather than
CD's
The video could also be aimed
towards men of the same age as
they may be interested in the
artist/her music. We are aiming
to fill the spot next to Florence
and the Machine and Lana Del
Rey in the music industry with
our star, and therefore reaching a
large mainstream audience, as
well as the independent/obscure
music scene.
4. INSPIRATI
ON
We are taking our inspiration from other
medias, as well as music/music videos.
The stylistic features of our music video
would be:
- slow paced tracking shots/camera
movement
- dreamy texture/filter effects
- art house style and theme
- expressionist and surrealist imagery
- montage and photographic elements
- visual rather than narrative
- strong use of symbolism and
intertexuality.

music videos that have inspired us with
this idea.

6. GREEK
MYTHOLOG
Y
Epicurus' philosophy is based on the theory that
all good and bad derive from the sensations of
what he defined as pleasure and pain: What is
good is what is pleasurable, and what is bad is
what is painful. His ideas of pleasure and pain
were ultimately, for Epicurus, the basis for the
moral distinction between good and evil. If
pain is chosen over pleasure in some cases it is
only because it leads to a greater pleasure.
Although Epicurus has been commonly
misunderstood to advocate the rampant pursuit
of pleasure, his teachings were more about
striving for an absence of pain and suffering.
7. LOCA
TION
We have had a few ideas
about where to film certain
parts of our video. Emanuel
pool in Cambridge, where
we have connections that
will allow us to access this
privately. Wisbech
Library, which would look
great on camera and reflect
an era, and Grantchester
Meadows which would
provide a good setting for
the lust scene.
We think the black paint
scene would be most
effective against a white
wall, and therefore would
need to look for a room
where we could do this. If
not, then we will plan to
shoot this outside against a
