HIWARE BAZAR
“Hiware Bazar” is a village in Ahmed Nagar District of Maharashtra, India. The village is recognized as
the dream India of “Mohandas karamchand Gandhi ji.”
Before 1990 this village was facing hard times in terms of “drought, crop damages due to less rainfall.” It
was difficult to collect fodder for cattle. Due to water issues there was no employment and people started
migrating to cities. The families living in the village started giving up farming and got engaged in making local
tobacco and alcohol. People from neighboring villages dislikes coming to the village and it got blacklisted due
to evil activities.
Some youths of village took a step to develop their own village with the contribution of “Popatrao
Pawar.” He was collectively elected as a Sarpanch. The first thing implemented was rain water harvesting,
arrange water by digging field and making wells and started implementing the programs and activities of
Adarsh Gram Yojana. Apart from water conservation program trees were planted. This shows how with the
initiative and leadership of some youth changes are made for benefit of all and the vision of model village of
India is been accomplished.
Besides this women are key agent for development of any village. In Hiware Bazar women are engaged
in many farming and non farming activities to earn their livelihood. They are engaged in activities like faming
of fruits, vegetables and flowers, also in making bio gas and gober fertilizers for crops. Women in village can
also avail LPG connections and are a part of Women Thrift groups.
Together with the villagers and government funds, check dams were made. The village focused on
growing crops of vegetable, fruits and flowers which require less water and profit can be maximized. People
started doing other livelihood activities like dairy business with the help of dairy cooperatives. Primary schools,
2. anganwadis with mid day meal schemes and a healthcare system have been established. This shows how youth
of the village have contributed in development of Hiware Bazar.
In 1990 Popatrao Pawar was elected as the sarpanch of village and the village used many government
schemes to recover their past happenings. Any decision related to villagers is been taken by the panchayat
unanimously keeping in mind the benefit of people. Women are also a part of panchayat members and every
family who are in need and daughter’s marriage and education expenses are borne by the village itself.
Pawar’s good governance, hard work and dedication, along with village support and participation has led
the village to attain the title of Ideal Village by the Maharashtra Government.
