The Clean Sheet Laundry social enterprise
• The laundry employs 2 people with
learning disabilities
• North Herts Day Service were
instrumental in setting this up
• Withdrew when it was clear the
enterprise could run without us
• Kevin works there “ I began by
volunteering and now I get paid. It
helps me buy the things I want. I like
buying radios. I look forward to it and
work every Monday from 8.30 until
dinner time.”

• Watford Day Service - investment following
Valuing People – 6 specialist bases
• But recent staff restructure lost 10 WTE frontline
staff posts
• In response – closed café, small arts workshop and
base in Bushey
• More efficient use of staff but still meet service
user needs and wishes
• Now, Queens Rd base developing Upcycle project
& fully accessible sensory garden
• Developing town centre base for older people with
learning disabilities
• Watford Mencap reopening café in the library

• Services already have significant formal and informal
networks; HCC day services work with nearly 200 clubs,
groups, and organisations.
• New vision and service model envisages increased
specialisms, new services but with less general local
provision, more collaboration, more local community
activity.
• HCC have building resources that can be utilised more
to deliver the model.
• Existing networks and service infrastructure across the
county - key building blocks for Neighbourhood
