This is a short review of D.K Palit’s history of Indian artillery.
Good book on the whole but bad in analysis , and disappointing on the whole.
His analysis of 1965 war is mediocre to say the least . While he has totally whitewashed 1971
war.
4. Totally false claim by so called reputable military historian major general DK PALIT regarding
killing GOC 1st armoured division Pakistan army .who never led from the front
5. Palit a Baluch Regiment officer had no business dabbling with Indian artillery history.
This book is rare to locate and exorbitantly expensive to buy.
I became his intellectual disciple when I read his original essentials of military knowledge
published in 1950s but his revised edition of the same book was pathetically disappointing -
his lightning campaign etc were also more propaganda pieces than serious military history -
interestingly a Pakistan army officer plagiarised his book essentials and was awarded the
commonwealth prize essay competition ! A pathetic picture how commonwealth essays
were judged and awarded .
Interestingly this Pakistani plagiarizer officer later won one of highest Pakistani gallantry
awards. One may state that gallantry and plagiary have nothing in common !
Major General Tajammul Hussain Malik who this scribe interviewed described eighty percent
of gallantry awards in Indo Pak wars as bogus and fictitious.
