1. What kind of media institution might
distribute your media product and why?
One distribution institution I have chosen is Prometheus Global
Media. Reason I chose them was because they distribute Billboard
magazine, which was one of my inspirations. Billboard has an award
winning website, authoritative weekly publication, and is consumed
by people in more than 100 countries. The additional assets include
more than 200 weekly charts and are the most viewed and quoted in
the world.
In 2010 it won the national magazine award for digital media and the
digital growth statistics year-over-year are: 100% more unique
visitors, 140% more page views and 67% time spent on it. The digital
audience has grown 20x that of competitive set. Therefore it has
proven itself as being a successful company which could distribute
my magazine digitally also.
Publishers are the ideally content for magazines to get distributed
because they can integrate into the audiences easily. They can also
help with convergence like Prometheus Global Media, since media
industries are diversifying all the time, publishers can help with
distributing and producing across numerous media's.
An example of this is Billboard and VIBe having an online version of
the main articles etc. This means it reaches a bigger audience and
may reach other target markets.
