Maoris celebrate matariki it is one of the maoris celebrates in new Zealand maoris see it on the last few days of may it is also called the Maori new year I celebrate matariki also my family we love it sometimes the school comes down to the jewels to celebrate it to and we all look at the 7 sisters
3. what does Matariki signify ? The Maori name for the group of stars is the Pleiades star cluster or The Seven Sisters. people say that the Seven Sisters are our an sister from years ago. others say that they have been watching over use for many years keeping use safe from the bad sprits
4. when can matariki be seen ? Matariki can be seen on the 5 th of June and the few days of may and the next new moon which occurs during June and it lasted up to 3 days it is a very superior view to look at because it is the bights stars out of all the other stars it also looks like a a pot in the beautiful night sky it is a excellent view to enjoy watching Matariki finally arrive in a specula way.

Matariki is the Maori name for the group of stars also known as the Pleiades star cluster or The Seven Sisters; and what is referred to as the traditional Maori New Year. and also the Traditionally celebrations lasted up to 3 days after the new moon had risen following Matariki becoming visible.
6. What I have Learnt ? The Maori new year is marked by the rise of Matariki and the sighting of the next new moon. The pre-dawn rise of Matariki can be seen in the last few days of May every year and the new year is marked at the sighting of the next new moon which occurs during June. This next occurs on 5 June 2008 .
