she was nine when her father killed. The capo built the
legendary Hacienda Napoles by grant one of your wishes.
Today asylee lives in Argentina and is about to celebrate 30
years.
Journalist and writer José Alejandro Hoyos castaño spent 20
days in house of the Escobar Henao family, consisting of his
wife and two sons of the late drug lord Pablo Escobar Gaviria.
The same people who were forced to take refuge in
Argentina after the 1994 death of capo. At first, the visit of
he journalist had a purpose: to write a book about the life of
the heirs of the world's most famous narco. for security,
agreements and intimate positions of Escobar Henao, took a
turn in order that quashed any possibility of building a news
story.
they were Three unforgettable weeks for he journalist in which
he shared breakfast, lunch and meal with the Escobar Henao in
Buenos Aires. It had been 14 years since the death of the boss
when his wife, Maria Victoria Henao, and their children, Juan
Pablo and Manuela, were forced to leave Colombia and seek
asylum somewhere in the world. Argentina opened the doors
and there María Victoria found a new love, she remade her life
and her children grew up with new names. Pablo Escobar went
from being a nightmare to even become a business
opportunity for your child now known as Sebastian
Marroquin.
When the visited in Buenos Aires, castaño had in mind an
editorial project that ultimately failed. Of all the times he lived
in the intense days in the privacy of pain the Escobar family,
one remained in his mind the trace of of Manuela, the beloved
daughter of the boss. though the girl are went before the
arrival of he journalist, the melancholy of manuela was
impregnated in the apartment.
Jose Alejandro castaño became obsessed with reconstructing
the life of a sad girl converted into a 23 year that even could
not find meaning in life. Then began a newsgathering five
years in which he interviewed dozens of people who knew her
when she was the pampered daughter of Paul, who tried to
please at any cost.
Castaño was found with a family who happened of live in
palaces and mansions to live in a discreet apartment and have
a maximum luxury, a cottage on the outskirts of Buenos Aires.
the sons of escobar they stopped calling Juan Pablo and
Manuela to become Juana Manuela and Sebastian Marroquin
Santos, sons not of mary Victoria Henao but of Isabel Santos. In
1999, when it was discovered that they were the legitimate
Bonnet heirs, justice Argentina seized of mary Victoria and
Juan Pablo for 15 months strangely more longer than the days
he spent in jail Escobar.
The authorities attempted to demonstrate unlawful acts during his
stay in Argentina, relacionados with money laundering and identity
theft to drug trafficking, but they could never prove any crime.
spent five fiscals by the case , they all said the same thing to he
famous judge Cavalli: "there's nothing here." Once released from
legal prosecution, the family Escobar resumed his life with money
that the Colombian government given by way of compensation for
the war that had caused the drug trade. Because of inheritance it
was little. The family was forced to meet with the group leaders
'Los Pepes' (persecuted by Pablo Escobar) and forced to hand over
hundreds of properties which were in name of the capo, in
exchange that los pepes forgive the life. list in hand, were given
deeds of houses, apartments, farms, land, cars and paintings
among other valuables.
The reconstruction of the life of Manuela was a special
effort. In Panama, castaño found to whom had been the
girl's nanny, a woman remembered how they dressed, their
favorite food, the games, the fear, and television programs
entertained.
Another person with whom castaño spoke was a woman
who was pregnant of Escobar to whom the capo forced to
abort , apparently, in one of the famous clubs of the city.
The reason: Escobar would have sworn to manuela that she
would be the last descendant, "end of story". But most
striking are the anecdotes they told the lieutenants of he
capo that protejian the family whom knew in the privacy.
They recalled many episodes, such as the of the unicorn
that in a Christmas asked the girl and how they themselves
had to show up at the request of the chief, with a white
horse in the that horn was stapling under his mane and
joined long wings of paper his torso. The animal died from
an infection. If Manuela wanted a giraffe, had to bring of
faraway Africa. If the princess wanted to see in person the
characters from the fashion, your wishes are fulfilled.
Photographic archives prove it.
The Pablo Escobar who surrounded recalled was an
affectionate, playful and creative with the girl.
Mercenaries were present when 'Don Pablo', in hot pursuit of the
Search Bloc, with great tranquility invented games for girl. I asked mom
eyeliner of eyes., painted her mustache and said: "cats are already there
to hide."
Brown managed to interview the Argentine singer Piero, who is said to
have met the capo. The artist confirmed that he was in Residences
Tequendama in Bogota when he learned of the death of Escobar, where,
coincidentally, the family was staying. Piero decided to visit them in the
suite and he sing to manuela, he sang his famous nursery rhyme
Manuela Unfinished Symphony at sea. Touched by the sadness in the
least intuited, invited her to sing in a children's choir that was formed
for the show that would make this December in Bogota. His intentions
were frustrated because parents of other children who make up the
chorus screamed to the sky find out the possibility that the daughter of
Pablo Escobar could sing with their children.
These and other stories appear transformed with touches of
fiction on the novel by José Alejandro Brown titled Close your
eyes princess. As might be expected, the work was not
appreciated at the Escobar family Henao. Some emissaries
have sent their messages of nonconformity, but the author
defends himself by explaining that the original idea came from
the 20 days he shared with Escobar in Buenos Aires, but
thereafter, dozens of people contributed to rebuild the human
tragedy behind the daughter of "Capo of Capos" whose desires
were orders to who was the most wanted man in the world.
