What is Swine flu? Swine flu, which is also called H1N1 influenza type A, is a dangerous disease which can spread easily among humans. This disease was from pigs who had the influenza. Swine flu is spread among pigs who carried the disease by direct and indirect contact. Also 1% to 4% of pigs who had this disease died from it. Some pigs are vaccinated against the swine flu.
Swine Flu Symptoms There are many symptoms that are shown on a human’s body. These may include fever, head-aches, fatigue, sudden coughs, soar throats, joint pain, sneezing, chills, diarrhea, aching muscles, runny nose, and many other symptoms.
H1N1 Swine flu is named for the arrangement of the proteins (Hemagglutinin and neuraminidase) in the surface of the virus. The numbers show the variations in each protein.
Location of the issue
Location of Mexico Mexico is a country that is located in central America bordering the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean sea. Mexico is located between Guatemala and the US. Also it is between the bay of Campeche and the North Pacific Ocean.
Swine flu in Mexico "This situation has been developing quickly," said acting CDC director Richard Besser. "This is something we are worried about."
IMPACTS OF
Social Impacts As a result of this disease, some of the social impacts are, death of poor people who can’t afford medication which links to loss of family members, sickness, people trying to prevent it by wearing masks that covers their faces, and many more. In Mexico 448 people died because of the H1N1 virus and many were diagnosed with this disease.
Economic Impacts Swine flu has some economic impacts on Mexico. One of these impacts is tourism. The virus has a big impact on the tourism in Mexico since it represents 8% of Mexico’s gross domestic products. This impacts the economy of Mexico because less people are paying and coming into the country. Also the medication to cure H1N1 costs a lot of money and people would not afford it.
Environmental Impacts The H1N1 virus has a big impact on the environment. This is because the virus can spread from pigs to humans, from humans to humans, and from humans to water. It could also affect animals by drinking the water or by getting close to infected people. This causes pollution and this is how the disease impacts the environment.
Solutions Tamiflu Influenza Vaccination Having doctors at airports to check people that are coming in the country if they have any symptoms
Tamiflu Tamiflu is a medicine that helps the body get rid of the symptoms and decreases the time of illness by 2-3 days.
Flu Vaccine The influenza vaccine is designed to prevent the H1N1 virus and stopping it from spreading to other people.
