1. How did I attract/address my
audience?

2. How did I attract/address my audience through
my front cover?
I attracted and addressed my
audience by getting feedback of
people at the age of 17 that were
predominantly boys. I firstly got
feedback on my front cover. Some
of the suggestions on improving it
was to make the masthead larger
than the rest of the text and also
to make it one colour from the
rest of the text so it would
become the key signifier, so that
people will recognise the name of
the magazine straight away and
know what they’re going to read.
Another suggestion was to
surround the puffs in boxes
with a background as the
bands featured will be easily
read and stand out to the
audience.
I finally placed all my puffs on the
left hand side and right of my
magazine and this was so people
can see what is featured on my
magazine, if my magazine is
placed behind other magazines in
the shops. The main article was
on the left hand side. I also used
two set colours and one font,
Impact as this kept a consistency
between the magazine.
I also attracted my
audience by featuring a
young-looking person as
the main picture. The
picture is also a mode
of address which means
that Ben is looking
directly at the audience
buying my magazine.
3. How did I attract/address my audience through
my contents page?
For my contents page, I
made the ‘contents’ the key
signifier on the page and
made it in the two colours I
used throughout the
magazine of black and light
grey. This made it clear to
the audience what it was
and attracted them to it by
the colour scheme and the
layout.
An improvement I made to
attract more people was to
put more articles featured
inside my magazine in my
contents page. I used 3
different separate columns
showing features, Reviews
and regulars all down two
columns with the third
column taken by pictures.
This kept a consistency and
theme for the magazine. I
used 3 different pictures to
show to the reader that ‘Ben
Gibson’ was not the only
main article in the
magazine.
I also used the same two
colours used throughout
the magazine. I made the
bands featured in bigger
writing and then some
information about the
article in smaller font
underneath to give the
reader extra information.
I also made the page
numbers big so that the
reader can locate the
page they want to read
easily.
4. How did I attract/address my audience through
my contents page?
For my double
page, I
attracted the
audience by
making the
headline very
big and in the
colour black so
it became the
key signifier on
the page. I
kept the
consistency
throughout
the page of
just using
black colour
text and using
the font of
Impact and
Arial.
I also used a
different picture
of Ben holding a
guitar and placed
it on the whole of
the second page.
I did this so it
would attract the
audience to the
picture and want
to read the article
on the other
page.
I also used two pull quotes to make the audience read that first, so that
they will then get hooked to the article and would want to read it straight
away. I also kept the text to 3 columns and quite short so that the article
was less text heavy so that more people would want to read it.
