6. CRITERIA OF A NORMAL
PREGNANCY
• Delivery of a single baby in good
condition at term, with foetal weight of
2.5kg or more without any maternal
complications.

7. ANTENATAL VISIT SCHEDULE

20. PHYSICAL EXAMINATION
GENERAL PHYSICAL EXAMINATION:
• Build: obese/Average/Thin
• Height: Short stature
• Nutrition: Good/ Average/ poor
• Weight: In each visit with same weighing
machine
• Pallor: Lower palpebral conjuctiva, dorsum of
the tongue & nail beds.

21. • Jaundice: Bulbar conjuctiva, under surface of the
tongue, hard palate & skin
• Tongue, teeth, gums & tonsils: evidence of
malnutrition are evident from glossitis and
stomatitis.
• Neck: neck veins, thyroid glands or lymph glands
are looked for any abnormalities. Slightly
enlargement of thyroid gland is common in most of
women.
• Oedema of legs: both the legs are examined over the
medial malleolus & anterior surface of the lower
1/3rd of the tibia. The area is to be pressed with
thumb for at least 5seconds. Notice the leg for any
varicosity.

22. Cause of oedema in pregnancy:
Physiological
Pre-eclampsia
Anaemia & hypoproteinaemia
Cardiac failure
Nephrotic syndome
