Welcome to the
30 Days Prayer Guide:
Just for Kids
D
id you know that this year we are celebrating 20 years of praying for
Muslims during their special month of Ramadan? Maybe you think that
this is not very long. Certainly for God it is not long, because he lives
eternally. But in 20 years a lot can happen.
When it all started in 1993, there were about one billion Muslims. Few people
knew much about Islam, the name of their religion, and not many Christian
missionaries were trying to reach them with the Good News of Jesus.
Today we hear about Muslims regularly on TV and in newspapers. While the
news is often bad, we now have an opportunity to know much more about Muslims
around the world and to be reminded to pray for them.
Ramadan is one of those opportunities to pray for them. Think about it: while
you pray during the next 30 days, millions of other people in dozens of countries
will pray with you. Because of all the attention and prayer for Muslims, many more
people have started to reach out to their Muslim neighbors, whether across the
street or around the world.
Here are just a few of the wonderful things that have happened:
In South Asia, at least half a million Bengali people from a Muslim
background have become believers in Jesus.
In Iran, Christian satellite TV is seen by many who gather in thousands of
secret house churches throughout the country.
In North Africa, several hundred thousand members of an unreached
Berber group have become believers, and they are just one of many
groups where this has happened.
Through radio and satellite broadcasting, many more millions of Muslims can now
hear the Good News, and many respond. They can read, hear or see passages
from the Bible on the Internet in their own languages. So much has
happened in the past 20 years.
But there are still many Muslims who have never heard about
Jesus and have little opportunity to find out about him. In 20 more
years there will be double as many as there were 20 years ago.
While we are greatly encouraged as we look at all that God has
done, we need to continue to pray. Let’s start with Day 1, and
again expect that God will do wonderful things.

The Arab Spring
❤ The Arab Spring happened in Tunisia, Egypt and Libya.
❤ In Egypt, 70,000 Christians met to pray for their country.
That's as many as live in a small city!
W
hen spring comes, many new things are happening. Little flowers grow and
the trees have new leaves. Everything looks wonderful, and there is hope
that winter is over. Two years ago in many Arab countries something new
started. Many people hoped that the governments would now change and give the
people living in those countries more freedom. It was called the Arab Spring.
After two years, many people are very disappointed. Instead of feeling happy,
they are now fearful, because instead of good things, many bad things have
happened. In many countries, war and fighting are going on.
But at the same time, the Christians in those countries started to tell their
worried neighbors about Jesus, and many are following Jesus now.
Can you look on a map and find the countries of the Arab Spring?
They also included Syria and Yemen. Write the words “Hope” and
“Jesus” on little pieces of paper. While you pray, cover the countries
on the map with them.

The Challenge of the
Muslim World
❤ Today, more than 2 billion people have never heard
about Jesus. This is about a third of everyone living on
the earth.
❤ Most of those people are Muslims.
H
ave you ever made a promise and did not keep it? You probably felt bad
about it. Many times in history, people have promised to share the Good
News about Jesus with everyone and then failed.
Now as believers in Jesus we need to share the Good News with Muslims. But
it will not be easy, and nobody can do it alone. Imagine if you had to tell all the
Muslim kids you know from your school or neighborhood. Wow: you could never
do it!
But if you start to pray with others for ways to share Jesus’ love, and for people
to go and share the Good News with many Muslims, it can be done. Maybe you
can help by praying for all those Muslims you know personally. God will give you
an opportunity to share about Jesus with them.

The Refugee Highway
❤ Many Muslims come to Europe as refugees. It is like a
big highway with a lot of traffic.
❤ In Greece alone, there are over 1 million refugees,
many from Muslim countries.
❤ Jesus was also a refugee when he was a little child and
had to flee to Egypt with his parents.
A
mir and his parents fled to Iran when Amir was a child. When he was a young
man, he started learning English in chat rooms on the Internet. He met
Christians there, and they told him about Jesus and prayed for him. Now Amir
is a father himself and has a little son. They are still refugees and have recently
moved to Germany. When he moved from Iran to Germany, he met Christians
again—this time in Athens, the capital of Greece. He decided to follow Jesus and
to become a believer.
There are many refugees like Amir who need people to become their friends
and share about Jesus with them.
Refugees often move from country to country trying to find a
permanent place to stay. Be a refugee today: while you are praying,
move from room to room in your home. Go from the living room to
the kitchen to the bedroom and so on, imagining moving to new
places.

Hungry for the Truth:
Children of Algeria
❤ Algeria is a country in the North of Africa.
❤ Kabylie is part of Algeria. It has a lot of mountains, and
many villages are on hills.
❤ The people who live in Kabylie are called Berbers.
J
oseph is a little boy who lives in one of the villages in Kabylie. Every day he
learns about Islam in school and studies the Koran. Joseph's father knows
Jesus and reads the Bible, but he does not have much time to tell his little son
about it because he is very busy working. Joseph doesn't know what he should
believe: is the Koran right, or is his father right when he tells Joseph about Jesus?
Joseph really wants to know.
Then he hears about a camp for children. Sadly, it is only for the children from
the church, and he does not go to church. Just a day before the camp starts,
Joseph gets an invitation to the camp and happily goes there. In the camp, he
talks with one of the leaders who helps him understand that it is Jesus who loves
him and who has forgiven all his sins. Joseph decides to follow Jesus from now
on.
Joseph was looking for a loving God. How many times can you read
love below? And where are the letters too mixed up?

Joseph was hungry for the truth, which is the word of God, the
Bible. In the Bible it says that God's word is like honey (Psalm

sweet to remember that God's word is sweet for us.

Magic in Bangladesh:
The Sylhetis
❤ The Sylhetis live in Bangladesh, and their most
important city is called Sylhet.
❤ 7 million Sylhetis live in Bangladesh, and many of them
are very poor.
❤ Many Sylhetis went to work and to live in Great Britain.
A
bout 800 years ago, a Muslim man
came to Sylhet with 360 followers.
The Sylheti people believe he
was a saint and could do miracles,
Together, he and his followers defeated
the king who was ruling in that area.
Many people believed that this was only
possible because that Muslim saint
could do magic. After he died many
Muslims started to come to his grave,
hoping there would still be magic to help
them.
Many Sylheti Muslims visit graves
every Thursday evening to pray and
seek help from those who have died.
The Sylhetis don't understand that dead
people cannot help and that they cannot
do magic.
How would you know
about Jesus if your family
did not have a Bible?

really love to dress up in colorful costumes and ride around on their horses.
Because they love horses so much, they are sometimes called the “Cowboys of
the East.”
The Bajau also like to celebrate feasts and to come together for meals. The
biggest feast is at the end of Ramadan and is called Hari Raya in Malaysia, which
means ‘Day of Celebration.’ Some Bajau still believe in evil spirits and they think
that if they read from the Qur'an, then the spirits will disappear.
Can you find the seven differences between the two cowboys?

any tourists like to travel to Malawi because it has mountains to climb, parks

Many people are farmers and have to work very hard to have enough food.
Even the children have to help with the hard work. The farmers grow sugar, tea

About 500 years ago, the first Muslims came to Malawi and brought Islam with

S
ome areas of the world are too dangerous for missionaries to go to, but
the people in those places—including parts of Northern Africa and Central
Asia—can listen to the radio. The radio programs are broadcast in many
different languages, so people can hear it in their own language and understand it
well.
The radio programs that talk about Jesus are heard in many countries. Some
places have no electricity, but people there can still listen to the radio because
they have special radios that work with solar power. (Solar power is electricity that
comes from the sun shining on special glass plates.)
Through all the Bible programs on the radio, many Muslims can hear about
Jesus in a way they otherwise never could.

Many of the students are celebrating their first Ramadan away from home.

Violence in Damascus,

❤ Damascus is the oldest inhabited city in the world—the

❤ Syria is a country in the Middle East that borders the
Mediterranean Sea.
F
or over a year, a war has been going on in Syria. Many people have died and
many more have become refugees who have left Syria to live in Turkey and
other countries. Many of those who died were Christians. They were killed by
people who call themselves “Freedom Fighters.”
There is a pastor who lives and works in Damascus who is not afraid. He is not
running away. He stays in Damascus because his church is always full of people,
and they need the pastor to look after them. But they are not the people who
normally come. Now many Muslim women wearing veils are coming, bringing their
children and even their husbands along with them. They all long for peace, and
they know they can find it in the church.

P
ramana had big problems, and he felt that his life was ruined. He went to the
imam (the leader of the mosque) and asked him what he should do. The imam
told him to fast and meditate for three days. Pramana obeyed and went home
to meditate.
After three days, Pramana heard a voice that said, “Find Jesus, find the gospel.”
But who or what was Jesus? Pramana had no idea. Was it something to eat,
a tree or simply a rock? But the voice continued to speak to him and give him
instructions about what to do.
Pramana walked all night to a city where he’d never been, to the place the voice
told him to go. In that home, he found a Christian—one of only three Christians
in Pramana’s people group of 24 million! The Christian told him all about Jesus.

But there is also hope. Muslims have become believers in Jesus because of
Christians sharing with them. One church has grown from only five to 56 families.
The pastor for that church says, “God is doing miracles!”

trembles with fear. This has been
happening to him for many nights. He
cannot work well anymore, and he is angry
with his family and friends.
Finally he goes to a sheik, somebody
who really knows about Islam and has even
made a pilgrimage to Mecca. He explains
all his fears to him. The sheik gives Bilal a
white thread to wear around his wrist and an
amulet to attach to his pillow. Bilal is happy,
but soon he realizes that this does not help
his fears at all. He still wakes up trembling.
Then Bilal decided to go to a church,
where he got to know Jesus and accepted
him. After some time, he did not have
nightmares anymore. He felt free from it all!

the man did not let go of his hand.
Halid was really puzzled and asked a friend, also a Muslim, if he knew what
the dream was all about. The friend told him: that was Jesus in your dream. Halid
knew it was true, so he got a Bible and started reading it and sharing the Good
News with the people in his community.
Halid met Jesus in a dream. But there are still many Hui who need to hear about
Jesus.

Reaching Out to South

❤ About 2% of South Africans are Muslims, but that

T
here are some people in South Africa who are very open to accept Islam
and become a Muslim. One group is the prisoners. They want to receive
forgiveness for what they have done, and if Christians are not going to visit
them then Muslims will go.
The other group is poor, black South Africans who live in the countryside. They
often believe that being a Christian is only for white people, so they become
Muslims. Also, Muslims help them with food when they are hungry.
To show the love of Jesus, Christians in South Africa need to go out and visit

Indonesian Laborers in
Taiwan
❤ Taiwan is an island near China.
❤ Taipei is the biggest city of Taiwan.
❤ There are 155,000 Indonesian domestic workers
(household helpers) in Taiwan. That’s as many people
as a medium-sized city like Tallahassee, Florida, or
Vancouver, Washington.
C
an you imagine how you would feel if you lived far away from your family in
a country where you could not speak the language? Would you like to find
friends from your home country?
That’s what the Indonesian workers in Taiwan did. They would meet at the main
railroad station on Sundays. But there were so many of them that the people who
came to take the train had a hard time getting by them, so it caused complaints.
Besides the main railway station, Indonesian household workers meet in the
streets, in parks and in smaller stations. Many of the workers are working in
Christian families.
In Hong Kong there are also many Indonesians. The churches there have
started to help them and to provide places where they can meet. The Christians in
Taiwan could follow their example.
In order to reach out to the
Indonesian workers it is important to
work together. Stand in a circle and
hold hands. One person can start to
pray. When that person has finished,
he or she can press the hand of
the next person. Keep taking turns
praying until everyone gets a chance.

Hold the Children’s
Hands
❤ There are about 2.4 billion children in the world— about
one-third of all the people alive.
❤ 600 million are Muslim children.
M
any Muslim children are very poor. Some of them have to beg for food
for their families. Some children join gangs or become child soldiers or
terrorists. They can’t go to school, and sick children don't get the medicine
they need.
Some Christians, churches and organizations are helping the children who live
in the streets. They give food and help them to go to school. Still, there are not
enough people who are helping the Muslim children.
Today you can help the
suffering children. Ask your
mother to cook a simple meal,
maybe only soup, and give
the money you saved to an
organization that helps poor
children. When you pray, hold
an umbrella over yourselves

The Education of Women

Afghanistan, Pakistan and Yemen.
I

to school. You have to stay at home and help your mother with cooking and
cleaning the house.
Your brother goes on to study at a university, and you are still just at home.
Maybe you have been able to learn a little bit of reading, but nobody showed you
how to write. How would you like that?
Aren’t you glad you are able to go to school and you can read what is written
here? Many girls can’t go to school in Muslim countries. In Afghanistan, only
one in ten women can read and write. How can a mother help her children with
homework if she has never been to school?

❤ The valley lies between two really high mountains, the
Hindu Kush and the Hindu Raj.
C
hitral is a very beautiful valley but
for a long time it was not easy
to go there. In winter the passes
are blocked by deep snow. Now there
is a tunnel under the mountain to go

The people who live in Chitral are
very friendly and peace-loving. But
they are also very poor and many
men have to work far away from
home. They have to send money

Understanding Muslims
in the Central African
Republic (CAR)
❤ The Central African Republic really does lie in the
center of Africa; check it out on a map!
❤ Till 1960, the country was called Ubangi-Shari and was
a colony of France.
❤ The CAR is one of the poorest countries in the world.
T
he Central African Republic has many natural resources, such as diamonds,
gold and wood. But they are far away from the coast, where they could load
everything on ships and sell it to other countries, so they remain poor. Arab
countries nearby are helping, and they are also hoping that people in the CAR
will become Muslims. Many people who run businesses or are shop owners are
people from Muslim nations.
In the north of the CAR live the Rungas, a Muslim tribe who have not yet heard
the Good News of Jesus. But God also is at work in the CAR. A well-known
Muslim from the Fulani tribe has become a believer in Jesus and is telling others
about Jesus now. He became a believer during Ramadan.
This gorilla who lives in the CAR is hungry! Help him to get the
banana.
Some people in the CAR become Muslims because of the influence
of Muslims who have money. Get some coins and put them in a
bag, then have each member of your family take a coin out. The

Hospitality for Muslims in
Canada
❤ Muslims leave their home countries because of war,
persecution or natural disasters.
❤ Some leave because they long to be free.
J
ack had become a follower of Jesus. One day his brother told him that his
father was planning to kill him. Jack ran away, and after some years he reached
Canada. He didn't know anyone and he felt really lonely.
In 2008, a group of Christians in Canada started a newcomer center for people
like Jack. Now Jack is helping in that center. Muslims who have arrived in Canada
can go there and get help with learning English, childcare and tutoring. Boys and
girls can play soccer, and families can go to community festivals.
At the newcomer center, the Christians and the Muslims become friends.
Through that friendship, some Muslims have become followers of Isa Al-Masih
(Jesus the Messiah).
Let your parents be the house, stretching out their arms with the
hands together to form a roof. The children can stand in the house
and find shelter there. Then pray together for Christians to show

H
ave you ever slept in a tent? Would you like to do that? Some children have

the tents where the refugees live in Dadaab. Many have been living in
Dadaab for many years. Some of the children and teenagers have never lived
anywhere else than in the refugee camp, where they were born.
A woman named Khadija had also lived in the camp with her children, but
because she was a Christian she could not live there in peace. The Muslim

Muslim Children and
Youth in Switzerland
❤ August 1st is the Swiss National Day.
❤ Many Muslim children attend a Qur’an school on
Saturday, where they learn Arabic and the teachings of
Islam. This is like an Islamic Sunday school.
❤ Some children need to be the translators for their
parents.
H
ave you ever felt like your classmates had no idea what you were talking
about when you spoke about Jesus in school? Maybe they even laughed
about it. That’s what some of the Muslim children in Switzerland experience.
At home with their family, they speak about God (Allah), they pray and they go to
meet other Muslims. In school, though, nobody talks about God or prays.
Some children from Muslim families live in two different worlds. At home they
learn to be obedient to their parents. Some of the girls are told what kind of clothes
they can wear. They spend a lot of time as a family and with other Muslim friends
and relatives. But when they go to school, everything is different. Their classmates
eat pork and wear clothes they would never be allowed to wear. Their family
members don’t care for each other in the same way. For example, they hear of
families that are sending their grandparents to homes for the elderly.
Muslim children in Switzerland are confused by these differences. Which one is
the right way to live? They need friends.
Do you know what the Swiss flag looks
like? It is square and red with a white
cross in the middle. On this special day,
many flags will be hanging everywhere
in Switzerland. You can make your own
Swiss flag today. In the white cross, write
some names of Muslim children you know

Martial Art in Indonesia
❤ Around 9 million people live in the Indonesian province
of Banten.

islands.
❤ Banten is also a harbor where spices used to be sent
all over the world.
H
ave you ever seen somebody who is walking over hot coals or striking
himself with a knife and does not get hurt? Doing this is called “debus,” and it
is a martial art done by the Banten people. They believe that if somebody is
pure before God he will get the power to do it. Almost all Banten have had some
experience with this art.
The Banten are a people group who have not heard about Jesus yet, and many
are very strong Muslims. There are very few Christians who live in the Banten

T

T

They do this to remember when Ibrahim (that’s what they call Abraham)
offered his first son to God.
If you know any Muslims, ask them what they believe and why they sacrifice
an animal. If they ask you what you believe, you can tell them that you believe in
Jesus. You can tell them that God said Jesus was the lamb of God who died for us
and took away our sins.
Do you like to draw? Can you draw a sheep or a little lamb? Make
