Welcome: Immigration from Different Countries 
Description: This WebQuest will help students understand the stories of immigrants and their 
families. 
Grade Level: 3-5 
Curriculum: Social Studies 
Keywords: immigrants, family, 1800’s 
Introduction: Every immigrant has their own story, you will read other peoples stories and try 
and come up with your own story in a journey through immigration. 
Task: You will be divided into four groups, each group will read two families stories. You will 
write about your group’s reactions to the stories. Once you are done reading the stories, your 
group will then create your own story. 
Process: 
Day 1: Read the family story I assigned your group and write your reactions to their journey. 
Group 1: Kudrna Family 
Group 2: Mirelowitz Family 
Group 3: Stollmayer Family 
Group 4: Hayter Family 
Day 2: Read the family story I assigned your group and write your reactions to their journey. 
Group 1: Jue Family 
Group 2: Thomas Family 
Group 3: Sicurella Family 
Group 4: Perdikis Family 
Day 3: Start brainstorming with your own ideas for your story on immigrating. Below I have 
attached sample stories for your group to reference.

Day 4: You should be working on your story during the allotted time given. If you do not finish 
you need to finish your story for homework. You will be presenting your stories on Monday, 
you have all weekend to finish and practice telling your story. 
Evaluation: You will each get a participation grade for working with your groups. I will grade 
you on your presentation and your story itself, look at the attach rubric below.

  • 1. Welcome: Immigration from Different Countries Description: This WebQuest will help students understand the stories of immigrants and their families. Grade Level: 3-5 Curriculum: Social Studies Keywords: immigrants, family, 1800’s Introduction: Every immigrant has their own story, you will read other peoples stories and try and come up with your own story in a journey through immigration. Task: You will be divided into four groups, each group will read two families stories. You will write about your group’s reactions to the stories. Once you are done reading the stories, your group will then create your own story. Process: Day 1: Read the family story I assigned your group and write your reactions to their journey. Group 1: Kudrna Family Group 2: Mirelowitz Family Group 3: Stollmayer Family Group 4: Hayter Family Day 2: Read the family story I assigned your group and write your reactions to their journey. Group 1: Jue Family Group 2: Thomas Family Group 3: Sicurella Family Group 4: Perdikis Family Day 3: Start brainstorming with your own ideas for your story on immigrating. CATEGORY 4 3 2 1 Points Knows the Story The storyteller knows the story well and has obviously practiced telling the story several times. There is no need for notes and the speaker speaks with confidence. The storyteller knows the story pretty well and has practiced telling the story once or twice. May need notes once or twice, but the speaker is relatively confident. The storyteller knows some of the story, but did not appear to have practiced. May need notes 3-4 times, and the speaker appears ill-at-ease. The storyteller could not tell the story without using notes. Voice Always speaks loudly, slowly and clearly.
