1. What is the Global Shapers Community?
The Global Shapers Community is a network of hubs developed and led by young
leaders between 20 and 30 years old who are exceptional in their potential, their
achievements and their drive to make a contribution to their communities. Global
shapers community is an initiative of the World Economic Forum (WEF) and we are the youngest stakeholders of
the World Economic Forum (WEF). To date and in less than 24 months, there are more than 300 hubs in the
major cities around the world.
2. Who are the Global Shapers?
Global Shapers are a group of highly selective young extraordinary individuals with great potential for future
leadership roles in society and share a spirit of entrepreneurship in the global public interest.

What are the privileges of Global Shapers?
Connect to all the Global Shapers around the world. Some of the renowned Global Shapers are grandson of
Warren Buffett, Howard Buffett, partner of Deloitte, Olympic medalist and others extraordinary
entrepreneurs, executives and individuals.
Assess to all the World Economic Forum latest research, knowledge and insights that engender a better
understanding of the global, regional and industry agendas.
Establish a privileged interaction with Forum communities, Young Global Leaders, the Social Entrepreneurs
and the Technology Pioneers
Access to all WEF other communities-the top leaders from politics, business, civil society, media, science,
arts and culture, faith -with the objective to provide a maximum of possibilities for interaction and mutual
mentorship.
Selected Shapers will be invited to attend and actively participate in some of the World Economic Forum
Annual Meetings and Regional Summits (e.g. as speakers in panels, as discussion facilitators, etc)

World Economic Forum is an independent international organization committed to improving the state of the
world by engaging business, political, academic and other leaders of society to shape global, regional and
industry agendas. WEF is a not-for-profit foundation and tied to no political, partisan or national interests.
5. Why the World Economic Forum (WEF)?
The World Economic Forum has successfully established a history of engaging young leaders to positively and
proactively impact the global agenda. The forum of Young Global Leaders (YGL) is the second youngest
stakeholders of WEF and they are the leaders under the age of 40.
6. Who are the stakeholders of World Economic Forum?
The World Economic Forum is the world’s foremost multi stakeholder community, engaging leaders from
business (members) and non-business (constituents). The 16 stakeholders of WEF are the International Business
Council, Strategic Partners, Industry Partners, Foundation Members, Global Growth Companies, Technology
Pioneers, Governments and Political Leaders, Labor Leaders and NGO Leaders, Global Agenda Councils, Global
Issues Group, Media Leaders, Young Global Leaders, Social Entrepreneurs, Global Shapers, Cultural and Spiritual
Leaders and Women Leaders.

2. 8. How is the application process for Global Shapers Community George Town (Penang)
Hub?
For George Town (Penang) Hub, interested candidates should apply at

The next application deadline is 28th February 2014.
Successful candidates will be invited for an interview. The curator will submit potential
candidate’s profile to the World Economic Forum where the forum will make the final decision.
9. What is the commitment level of Global Shapers Community George Town (Penang) Hub?
The shapers meet once in two month and each hub has to undertake one local project or international
collaboration project with other hub around the world. Global Shapers are leaders who own several businesses
and not for profit foundation. For shapers who are in overseas for business or personal purposes, they can call-in
to the meeting via our free international call services.
10. What type of projects we can organize?
There are too many awesome projects initiated by the Global Shapers Community. The projects we have
initiated are building 200 libraries across Philippines to impact 2 million people by Manila Hub, Global Social
Innovator Forums for entrepreneurs which attracts 2.4 million attention by Singapore Hub, youth career
empowerment projects by Kuala Lumpur, Ho Chi Minh, Lome, Amman, Charlotte and other hubs around the

11. What is the size of Global Shapers Community George Town (Penang) Hub?
The maximum number of the shapers in each local hub is 30. George Town (Penang) Hub will invite and recruit
only 50 outstanding local leaders to be the Global Shapers. The membership for each Global Shapers is 5 years.
12. How much is the membership fees?
The membership fee for Global Shapers Community is free.
13. If I’m not selected as a Global Shapers, what can I do?
You are encouraged to resubmit your application in one year time. We encourage you to invest your time to
volunteer with us. This is a good opportunity to learn with each other and you might stand a higher chance to

14. If I’m not based in Penang, am I still eligible to become a Global Shapers for George Town (Penang) Hub?
Yes, you are still eligible. You have to plan your trip to Georgetown, Penang to attend the meeting as most of the
meetings, events and projects are based in Penang.
15. How many Global Shapers Hubs in Malaysia?
Global Shapers Community Kuala Lumpur Hub was established on February 2012 by founding curator, Dr. Cheng
Ming Yu. George Town (Penang) Hub is the second hub in Malaysia. To date, there are 27 shapers in Malaysia.
They are social entrepreneurs, designers, consultants, economist, engineer, chief technology officer, professors,
entrepreneurs and business development manager in healthcare industry.
