  • NancyEddyArnold01 Nancy Arnold Susie have you heard any member of Congress suggest any viable jobs plans? NO, absolutely not. Your post is very naive in its content - blame illegal aliens for our loss of jobs? Come On - do some reading on the real causes of this country's mess and come back with a post with some comments that will help us get better. The time for negativity is done - we citizens have to work together to find solutions - the Congress certainly is not going to. 2 years ago

  • SusieCookeErskine Susie Cooke-Erskine, Phlebotomist/Instructor at American Red Cross I think we should bring our Military home from a place that has so-called 'soldiers' that we have tried to train for 10 years and they still don't get it. They get it, it's just easier for them if we stay forever. They are lazy. When the military comes home, and also anyone needing a job in our 'infrastructure', why not take that opportunity to build an impassable wall all along our borders, saving us tax money that we use to support illegal aliens who take our jobs anyway? It would 'create' a lot of jobs just to get that border secure. AND-we need a secure border first and foremost. I have not heard one politician suggest that we could create jobs in this way. Think about it. 2 years ago

  • BenLeet BenLeet Go to www.jackrasmus.com and to 'Robert Pollin, September 2011' for two professors (google those words) offering an evaluation of the Obama job plan. Both are left to far left economists at U.S. universities. Robert Kuttner at American Prospect will have a response too. My take is the plan over-relies on tax breaks. We've done this before repeatedly, it has not worked. It's cheaper and more effective to create jobs directly through public programs. Between 1933 - 1937 Roosevelt created directly public jobs, and unemployment fell from 25% to 9.6%, see Marshall Auerback, New Deal 2.0, August 30, 2010. There are many excellent plans that would restore employment and the economy (see 'Back to Work' by Philip Harvey and the epi.org plans), but this President does not understand economics well. This plan will support employment but not restore it. We'll see little improvement as a result. It's weakness will probably sour the public on any real government stimulus. There has been a shift in distribution of income since 1980, about 17% of the nation's income that went to to lower 80% now goes to the upper 20%, see Emmanuel Saez' report 'Striking It Richer' -- he's a U.C. Berkeley professor. The top 10% of households used to receive 35% of pre-tax income, today almost 50%. And since 1980 the top tax brackets have been lowered by half. (see inequality.org for confirmation, also) This president does not understand the holistic effect such an income shift has had on the economy. I post at http://benL8.blogspot.com 2 years ago

  • sustoddard sustoddard Check the statistic for slide 4. This number must be much larger than 185%...(200% would be equal to double....the graph though shows what we expect, that the amount is much greater. Did the author mean 185 TIMES the average salary? (rather than 185% OF the salary)...These numbers are powerful...let's make sure we get them right! 2 years ago
