Kawasaki unleashed an absolute monster in the world of motorcycles with the Ninja H2R. This supercharged bike
produces an earth shattering 300 hp while its competitors are struggling to breach the 200 hp mark. And while it’s a
track-only bike, Kenan Sofuoglu, the most successful World Supersport rider of all time, decided to set a new land
speed record on a production motorcycle on a newly made bridge in his home country of Turkey.
In the early morning of June 30th, the 4 time World SSP champion, managed to hit an unbelievable top speed of 400
kmph on a Kawasaki Ninja H2R. Kenan Sofuoglu had challenged himself to hit this mark despite Kawasaki saying
that their fastest bike ever can achieve a top speed of 380 kmph. After months of practise, taking the most minute
details into account and getting a specially made aerodynamic leather suit, Kenan shattered the record in a matter of
26 seconds! (Not counting the many hours he had to practise to achieve this feat).
Check out the video of this remarkable and adrenaline-rush inducing feat here:
“I reached 400 km/h, the maximum speed that this motorcycle could have, after a 4 long months of training,”
commented the WorldSSP superstar just after breaking the record. “I do not remember where I got this idea of the
record from first, but when I signed the agreement on 2016 with Kawasaki, I liked and wanted so much this special

2. edition bike. When I asked for the motorcycle, Kawasaki said its maximum speed was 380 km/h and that their dream
was to reach 400km/h. The first time I rode it, I felt its huge power and speed, and I made small changes to the
motorcycle – keeping its original settings – and did not modify it. I reached 390 km/h in my last trials and today I beat
this and reached 400 km/h. I was planning to do this speed attempt for the opening but we had to catch the best
weather conditions and so we did it at 5:00 am. The top speed we get to in the world championship races is about
300 km/h, so 400 km/h is a really high speed. It was a dream to reach this speed and thank god I made it. I currently
hold the top place in the World Championship, and my next dream is taking the World Champion title the fifth time.”
Sponsored by Kawasaki and endorsed by the Turkish President himself, this run was carried out at 5 am on the yet-
to-be-opened 8799-feet long Osman Gazi Bridge in Turkey. This time was selected as the weather conditions were
optimal for alleviating the biggest obstacle that faced Kenan – More than anything, it was the tyres bursting under
the immense pressure and heat that worried the team. Even though specially made tyres were used for this attempt,
it was calculated that Kenan must hit the top speed in under 30 seconds to avoid tyre failure.

3. Do you think you would ever be able to cross 300 kmph on a bike let alone 400? It’s going to be nerve-wracking for
sure. What do you think about it?
