“It's Harvest Time”
Matthew 9:35-38
John 4:34-38
34
Jesus said to them, “I am fed by doing the will of the one who sent
me and by completing his work. 35
Don’t you have a saying, ‘Four
more months and then it’s time for harvest’? Look, I tell you: open
your eyes and notice that the fields are already ripe for the harvest.
36
Those who harvest are receiving their pay and gathering fruit for
eternal life so that those who sow and those who harvest can
celebrate together. 37
This is a true saying, that one sows and another
harvests. 38
I have sent you to harvest what you didn’t work hard for;
others worked hard, and you will share in their hard work.”
Jesus calls His followers (US) to share in His compassion for the
lost,
and work together for the Harvest
2 Corinthians 8:1-7
1
Brothers and sisters, we want to let you know about the grace of
God that was given to the churches of Macedonia. 2
While they were
being tested by many problems, their extra amount of happiness and
their extreme poverty resulted in a surplus of rich generosity. 3
I
2. assure you that they gave what they could afford and even more than
they could afford, and they did it voluntarily. 4
They urgently begged
us for the privilege of sharing in this service for the saints. 5
They
even exceeded our expectations, because they gave themselves to the
Lord first and to us, consistent with God’s will. 6
As a result, we
challenged Titus to finish this work of grace with you the way he had
started it. 7
Be the best in this work of grace in the same way that
you are the best in everything, such as faith, speech, knowledge,
total commitment, and the love we inspired in you.
Faith Promise giving is:
Giving the Lord an opportunity to work in our lives.
Saying, “In dependence on God I will endeavor to give
$________.
Scriptural in focus - its target is the church’s God given task to
make disciples of all nations.
An extra gift that you might not be able to give apart from
trusting God to provide it.
According to what Paul teaches us in 2 Corinthians 8 and 9, a Faith
Promise is an amount:
more than one can afford (8:2-4).
hat follows personal commitment (8:5).
that is optional, but is a test of love (8:8).
promised in advance of the giving (9:5).
personally purposed (9:7).
that you can give cheerfully (9:7).
provided by God (9:8).
Faith Promise is a special offering which you will trust God to provide
out of His grace. In anticipation of His provision, you commit to give
it. Thus…THE FAITH PROMISE OFFERING!
It’s Harvest Time...
Time to pray for workers for the Harvest
Matthew 9:35-38
35
Jesus traveled among all the cities and villages, teaching in their
synagogues, announcing the good news of the kingdom, and healing
every disease and every sickness. 36
Now when Jesus saw the crowds,
he had compassion for them because they were troubled and
helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. 37
Then he said to his
disciples, “The size of the harvest is bigger than you can imagine,
but there are few workers. 38
Therefore, plead with the Lord of the
harvest to send out workers for his harvest.”
For Personal or Group Reflection
What does praying for workers for the harvest mean for me? How will I
be personally involved? What does praying for workers for the harvest
mean for us as a congregation... the Body of Christ? How will we be
corporately involved?
Next Week’s Missions Emphasis Speaker – Andrew Bushnell of Northern Asia ministry.

4. An Important Message from the
WCUMC Trustees
The Trustees Committee has recommended
that we replace the 50-year-old oil-fired
boiler (converted to natural gas in the 90’s)
with two hi-efficiency gas-fired furnaces to
heat the Gathering Place and the Celebration
Hall.
This will be much more efficient and enable
us to heat the two areas independently.
The cost of the project is estimated at $45,000 and we are asking
the congregation to fund half of it.
Since winter is fast approaching, there is some urgency in acquiring
these funds so that the contractor can get started by early October.
Thank you.
Begins Monday, Oct. 5
7:00 - 8:30 PM
DATES/TIMES: 9 Mondays from 7-8:30 pm beginning October 5
LOCATION: Room 11 downstairs
COST: We have 9 kits for $89. The first individuals or couples who
sign up will receive this bargain price! After that, the price is $99 per
individual or couple.
5. The Storehouse Food Bank Is
Having a Cereal Drive
Our shelves are empty this time of year, and we need help in a lot of areas. We are
asking our church partners to focus their collection on certain fast-moving items, and
WCUMC has a goal to collect 200 CEREAL BOXES, during October. Donations can be
placed in the barrels at the front or back doors of the church whenever the church is
open.
Storehouse Needs:
Cereal
Dried Beans
Chili
Pasta
Tomato Sauce
Canned Fruit
Rice
Calling All Singers
Singers are needed, wanted and encouraged to come join the
choir. If you have a youth that goes to Crossfire, we meet at the
same time. Rehearsal is every Wednesday in the Sanctuary at 7:15
PM and goes for about an hour. Come early and get the best seat in
the "loft".
