This presentation gives insight in the assessment procedure developed for accreditation of judges / assessors in floristry design.
A draft competence profile for a qualified judge / assessor in floristry design was developed by Florint together with a reflection group of highly esteemed and experienced professional judges, from various countries. During a project of over two years, involving the florist organisations of 5 European countries, a sound and coherent certification syste3m was developed. The 16 delegates of all project partners first reflected on the draft competence profile. This consultation lead to a final and more detailed competence profile, which is being used as basis for the certification procedure on (inter)national level.
The aim of the assessment procedure is to establish whether a person, wanting to become a certified judge, indeed possesses the competences listed in this profile. The national assessment consists of a series of coherent steps, which normally are:
1. The applying portfolio that needs to be fully completed by the candidate before the assessment;
2. The candidates written analysis, to be made of one floral arrangement with the analysing form that is supplied.
3. The candidates judging of 5 competition pieces using the national judging system.
4. The candidates educational assessment using the regular national educational assessment system.
5. The candidates guided group discussion or paired group discussion.
6. The candidates interview with the assessment committee.

25. Project outcome
• A detailed blueprint / format for an acknowledged
system for the assessment and certification of
judges in floristry / assessors in exams on national
level.
• All necessary backing documents / instruments like
applying portfolio, checklists, analysing forms etc.
• 5 countries being able to officially implement this
system in their country.
• a group of people having the capability /
competences to execute such an assessment, who
are also able and willing to assist and coach
organisations in other countries with the set-up and
implementation of the system in their country.
26. Next steps
• Development of an International
Assessment
• Transferring knowledge and skills regards
the national assessment to other
countries, with engagement of delegates
of the actual partners
• Transferring the competences to execute
such an assessment to people in other
countries
Follow-up partnership for the
dissemination at Leonardo da Vinci.
27. Timeframe
• 2013:
– First official assessments in 5 countries
involved in the LdV project;
– Involving one or two assessors from the other
4 countries;
– Assessment training for coming AC-members
(who need a certificate) during specific
trainings and AC-apprenticeship;
– Specific judging training for candidates for the
national certificate judge in floral design;
– Where possible: partly by organising shadow-
judging during competitions;
28. Timeframe
• 2014 and further:
– Preparatory meetings in dissemination
countries (Florint members and others);
– Process coaching by dedicated experts of the
actual project group;
– Pilot assessments in the target countries,
involving trained and certified assessors of the
home country plus dedicated experts of the
actual project group;
– Extending training possibilities for candidate
judges and for assessment committee
members;
29. Consideration
• Get-on-board moment for your organisation!?
We will not be able to handle all other Florint
members in 2013 / 2014!
But: the Leonardo partnership would (if granted)
lower the expenses;
We need to know before end of the year!!!!
• Moment the certification will become compulsory
for Florint’s competitions?
From Europa Cup 2015?
Starting with the national certificate plus
sufficient command of the English language.
