This document discusses the role of telecenters in e-health solutions. It describes WHP's social franchising model which uses telemedicine technology to provide health services at scale and in a sustainable way in rural areas. The model formalizes relationships through technology, provides sufficient incentives to drive standards, and leverages existing resources. WHP has established a social franchise network of over 5,000 rural franchisees, clinics, and labs connected through their ReMeDi telemedicine platform. The model has been applied to provide primary care, family planning, tuberculosis treatment, and care for childhood pneumonia and diarrhea as well as maternal health. Results so far indicate the model is making markets work for the poor by extending health services to vulnerable communities.
