Ways To Say “Thank You For
Your Business”
One of the easiest ways to generate competitive advantage
(and just down right feel good) is to simply say to your
customer “Thank You For Your Business.” Now before I move
on I have to say I am not an evangelist or trying to act as if I
have done it 100% of the time. I would give myself an honest
60% score in this department. What I have noticed though is
that 60% has provided the following benefits in my business
all from simply saying “Thank You For Your Business.”
Benefits Include:
• Repeat Business
• Referrals
• Longer Customer Lifetime
• Provided Additional Resources
• Sense of Camaraderie With Client
I have been working to make it a habit after speaking
somewhere, on my way to my gate at the airport I will drop
a hand written thank you note to my client in the mail. I
have noticed when I implement even some of these techniques
below, the fan club expands.
So here are a few Ways To Say
“Thank You For Your Business”
1. Infamous Thank You Card (Make is personal)
This is probably one of the easiest ways to say thank you for
your business to any client. Just don’t be generic about it.
I suggest getting a thank you card that has “thank you” on
the front and the inside is blank. This way, you will not be
tempted, in the midst of a busy time, to just sign your name
and throw it in the mailbox. Make it personal, and have your
customer feel at home by recapping the experience of working
together.
2. Pick Up The Phone
One of my practices is about 1 to 2 weeks after the event (giving
them time to rest and recuperate) is to give them a call 1st
to
say thank you then to ask them for any feedback about the
experience of working with me or the company. I usually lead
off thanking them, then asking for feedback because this lets
the client know that I want to hear from them what worked and
what didn’t work. I then end out the conversation thanking
them again. It is a great formula.
3. “Show Me The Movies!”
One thing I learned from one of my previous employers was
giving out Movie Passes. I used to think, “wow, that’s kind
of cheap.” Then I saw the customers reaction. It was gold!
She would hand them the Movie Passes and people would go
bonkers! Well, let’s just say, after my last trip to the movies,
having movie passes would have helped on the wonderful cost
of the Movie Experience.
4. Send Birthday Cards!
Real simple, when their birthday comes around, send them a
simple “Happy Birthday” card. Again personalize it and put
your card on the inside just in case they have misplaced your
other card.
5. Holidays Are A Great Opportunity
One of the commons ways that businesses say “thank you
for your business” is by sending holiday greetings and cheer
in a card. Well, with that being said, Holidays are a great
opportunity to stand out! Do something different than a
typical card. Maybe a Basket, Popcorn (one of my favorites)

or even a new calendar for the new year. Whatever it is, you
want your customer to do a double take when it comes to your
Holiday greetings.
6. Customer Anniversary Days
This one has been a charmer with 3 of my clients. One who has
rehired me for the last 9 years consecutively. Every year, my
client will get a call from me saying “hey” can you believe it was
a year ago when we last worked together? Thanks again for the
opportunity to work with you . . .” and it opens up into bigger
conversation which usually leads to them hiring me again.
Just acknowledging this is a ninja way to say
“thank you for your business.”
7. Customer Appreciation Days
Another way of saying “Thank You For Your Business” is
through wonderful customer appreciation days. If you are a
local business, this one can be a great opportunity to spend
time with your clients face to face. It doesn’t have to be
expensive or anything like that. If your office can handle the
capacity, order some food for the day and invite them to your
office to have a bite to eat with you. Now, probably on 5 to
10% of your customers may show, however, when customers
are made aware of this, they embrace the gesture.
So there you have it. 7 cost effective, simple ways to show
your appreciation for your customers business. Though many
companies are trying this, with these 7 ways, you can blow your
customer away and stand out just by simply saying “thank you
for your business.”
