The national prevalence rate of HCV antibody
positivity has been estimated to be between 10-
13%.

3. There are 6 types of Hepatitis C all over the world
according to its genotypes:
o Hepatitis C Genotype 1
o Hepatitis C Genotype 2
o Hepatitis C Genotype 3
o Hepatitis C Genotype 4
o Hepatitis C Genotype 5
o Hepatitis C Genotype 6
In Egypt, the prevalence of the cases are due to infection
with Hepatitis C Genotype 4.

6. Acute signs and symptoms
Majority of people with acute Hepatitis C do not have any symptoms.
Early symptoms would be most likely to occur around 6 or 7 weeks
after exposure to the hepatitis C virus
Some people, however, can have mild to severe
symptoms soon after being infected, including:
15. Chronic signs and symptoms
o Most people with chronic Hepatitis C do not have
any symptoms, until liver problems have
developed.
o If a person has been infected for many years, his or
her liver may be damaged.
o Hepatitis C is often detected during routine blood
tests to measure liver function and liver enzyme
(protein produced by the liver) level.

HOW TO PREVENT IT?
The preventive measures are VITAL to prevent the occurrence of the
disease.
DO NOT:
• Share personal things with other people. E.g: razor blade, tooth
brush, needles and syringes.
• Receive blood transfusion unless an adequate screening of
blood has been done.
17. Complications
Scarring of the liver tissue
(cirrhosis). Scarring in your liver
makes it difficult for your liver to
function.
Liver cancer.
Liver failure.
