SAL Lab orientation

  1. 1. Welcome to the SAL Computer Lab!
  2. 2. Check the Lab Schedule <ul><li>Lab hours are from: </li></ul><ul><li>*8:00 am- 6:00 pm </li></ul><ul><li>(Mon-Thurs) </li></ul><ul><li>*8:00 am- 5:00 pm (Fri) </li></ul><ul><li>The schedule may change! Please check </li></ul><ul><li>the hours posted on the door. </li></ul>
  3. 3. Speak English in the Lab <ul><li>Why are we here? </li></ul><ul><li>TO STUDY ENGLISH! </li></ul><ul><li>English is the only language we all speak. It is considered rude to speak another language that others don’t understand. </li></ul>

  6. 6. Saving Your Files <ul><li>Please do not save files on “Desktop.” </li></ul><ul><li>You may use a </li></ul><ul><li>USB Flash Drive . </li></ul><ul><li>Or, you can save in “My Documents” and email yourself the file as an attachment . </li></ul>
  7. 7. Wireless Network <ul><li>Use the information on the desktop of any PC in the building </li></ul>

Lost and Found Items <ul><li>We find many things </li></ul><ul><li>which are accidentally left </li></ul><ul><li>in the lab such as: </li></ul><ul><li>USB Flash Drives </li></ul><ul><li>Floppy Disks </li></ul><ul><li>CDs </li></ul><ul><li>Glasses </li></ul><ul><li>Purses </li></ul><ul><li>Wallets </li></ul><ul><li>Car Keys </li></ul><ul><li>Ask the Lab Assistants for help with these items. </li></ul>
  9. 9. Keep Your Area Neat and Clean <ul><li>Clean your area for the next user. </li></ul><ul><li>Hang the headphones back on the hooks. </li></ul><ul><li>Recycle extra papers. </li></ul>

Printer Information <ul><li>The printing limit is 50 pages per week. </li></ul><ul><li>Printing in the SAL Computer Lab is free. </li></ul><ul><li>Remember to bring your SJSU ID Card! </li></ul><ul><li>2. Recycle Paper printer </li></ul><ul><li>(print on recycled paper every Thursday) </li></ul>1. Double side printer (will print on blank paper, double sided) *please use this printer for non- important jobs *please use this printer for important jobs The lab staff can give you tips to minimize paper usage

Please DO NOT: <ul><li>Access offensive or inappropriate internet sites. </li></ul><ul><li>Damage or delete computer software or hardware. </li></ul><ul><li>Download or Install any software or hardware. </li></ul><ul><li>(no online Chat programs i.e. Yahoo/ MSN messenger or MP3s or movies) </li></ul><ul><li>Use computers marked “For Instructor Use Only” in the classrooms. (Only the Lab and Kitchen Lounge computers are for student use) </li></ul><ul><li>Tamper with computer, projector or other cables. (For help, contact the Lab assistant) </li></ul>
  13. 13. Cell Phones <ul><li>Please leave the lab if you need to attend a phone call. </li></ul><ul><li>This way, other lab users won’t be disturbed. </li></ul>
  14. 14. Most Important Lab Rule… <ul><li>PLEASE DO NOT EAT OR DRINK IN THE LAB. </li></ul><ul><li>You may leave your food items in the student lounge refrigerator. </li></ul>
