Youth Outcomes Task Force Meeting  Nov 1st, 2010
Enhanced Programming
Youth Outcomes Task Force Determine how best to meet the needs in our community  to help kids improve in area’s of  Social Acceptance and School Attendance Monday, November 1st 4-5 pm Discuss possible interventions and strategies to help children overcome identified obstacles
Attendance Interventions Connectedness Raising Awareness (someone notices if they are there or not) Incentives: smiley face, points, etc. for attending, turning in homework, etc., things individualized based on their interests. Also rewards to school if attendance overall improves. Transportation: Someone to be a “plan B” (volunteer, family member, community member) Wake-up calls (automated) School sharing attendance info with other interested party Focus on developing network to ensure child gets from home to school Check in with someone
Social Acceptance Interventions Figuring out how everyone can be in an extracurricular activity Force them to intertwine with other peers Free sports physicals Fitting basic needs into this – starting at same point (i.e. clothing, school supplies, etc.) Stabilization practices for transient youth Dress code: some sort of code and enforcement Coach, mentor, teacher, older peer…some connection School supplies & basic needs: coordinated community school supply drive or companies adopting a school Focus on individual strengths to encourage involvement Building network to ensure youth have opportunity to attend before/after school programs
