  2. 2. The aim of the presentation is to examine the internet with regards to inequality in the educational realm.

  4. 4. Less Fortunate <ul><li>Unable to obtain knowledge </li></ul><ul><li>Negative Effects on Social Status </li></ul><ul><li>Poor standardized test results </li></ul><ul><li>Unable to keep up with homework </li></ul><ul><li>Unmotivated </li></ul>
  5. 5. The Privileged <ul><li>Obtained more knowledge </li></ul><ul><li>Increased Social Status </li></ul><ul><li>More resources </li></ul><ul><li>Higher standardized test scores </li></ul>
  6. 6. Social Networking <ul><li>Facebook, Myspace, & AIM distract those who are underprivileged & do not have access when classes have computers. </li></ul>
  7. 7. Effect <ul><li>Increases the achievement gap- </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Differences in academic performance among groups of students which are identified by ethnicity and income level. </li></ul></ul>
  8. 8. Conclusion <ul><li>Internet as a social status symbol </li></ul><ul><li>Computers in the home and school decreases the knowledge gap </li></ul><ul><li>Better overall grades for everyone if they owned a computer </li></ul><ul><li>Improved learning </li></ul>
